How long would you let dc cough before calling the pedi

My dd had a cold 2-3 weeks ago.  She is still coughing but the cold has been gone.  Yesterday morning she woke up with a stuffy nose but this seems more like allergies then a cold now.  Could this cough be allergies and not from her cold at all?  Im not sure when I should call her pedi about it.

    We rarely go to the pedi because they always tell us the same thing -- it's a virus, let it run its course.

    They can't give kids anything for a cough but we use delsum (sp?) although I'm not sure it really works.

    If she's not running a fever I wouldn't worry about it.

    Ditto pp.  I never take dd in anymore for the same reason.  There is nothing they can do.  Coughing can be from allergies too.  Unless she is having trouble breathing, or wheezing I would just keep her home.  Encourage fluids and use vicks vapor rub.

    It probably is allergy related. 

    I rarely call the pedi for DS when he is sick.  most of the time they cant do anything to make them feel better.  It always a virus and you just have to let it run it course.

    I wouldn't.  DS's cough's go on for weeks before it goes away!

    We are in the same boat.  We had went to the hosptial over labor day weekend when DD had to get an IV due to dehydration from some horrible stomach virus.  There we picked up a nasty, nasty cold that ran its coarse but now DD has this cough that will not go away.  Sometimes it wakes her at night.  It has been around for weeks.  We finally went to the ped (got antibiotics that didn't do anything but she was sick for so long they thought they would try) and I picked up an icky new cold for myself.  It was a big fat waste.  I figure this all has to go away eventually.  I am not going back to the doc and getting yet another disease.

    i am in the same boat.  cold for 2 weeks as of tomorrow.  and we brought him in last sat.  nothing they can do.  now a cough.  it is off and on, so I am not bothering to call the pedi to hear there is nothing they can do.
