We ordered a Creative Playthings Playset. Advice re sand/configuration?

After much research and discussion we finally ordered the Lexington 5'x7' playset with a wood roof, 4 position swing beam, rock wall and wood ramp.  They will deliver next week.  Thank goodness that decision is made! Anyone have this set?  Do you use the sandbox feature?  If so, what do you use for a cover?  We are deciding whether we will buy a CP sandbox cover, use a plastic sandbox inside the wooden one to use that cover, or build playwalls and floor and just use the sand and water table on our deck.  Any ideas?

Also, any thoughts regarding configuration?  We are thinking the rock wall and steps on a 7' side.  Should we attach the swing beam to the 5' or the other 7' side?  And then have the ramp and slide on the same side (to make 2 complete walls and make it feel more enclosed) or opposite (so every side has something)?

TIA!

  • I'm pretty sure this is the one we have.  We got it 5 years ago but i'm thinking it was called Lexington.

At any rate, if you are facing ours, there is a slide and a ramp (w/rope) facing you.  On the right side, there is the stairs.  Behind the slide (so on the other side of the tower), is a rock wall.

We have the rings, the seesaw swing thingy and two regular swings.  (And a baby swing that no longer gets used).

We have sand in the sand box with no cover.  We've never covered it.  Joe just adds like 3 new bags of sand each year and we haven't had any issues.  It gets wet, but they don't care.  :)

  • I do not have this play set, but we do have a LARGE sandbox my father built for the boys. We cover it with 2 pieces of plywood and a sheet of plastic is we know it is going to rain. We are also able store all the shovels and truck underneath. Works well for us. I like to keep it covered at night due to outside cats.
  • I would think you would want the sand to get wet, better to play with it. I would just get a cover if there are cats.

I don't mind a little water, but if we know there is going to be a hard storm we cover it. I'm also paranoid about cats using it as a toilet.
