Anybody stayed at Majestic Elegance Resorts in DR?

What'd you like about it?  Hate about it?  What have you heard about it?  We're all-inclusive travelers when it comes to beach resorts...we did the Sandals thing in Jamaica a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

We're also looking at two new Secrets resorts.  Anyone been to one of their resorts?

    check out Tripadvisor.com for reviews - they seem to get the most, and you'll see the good the bad and ugly. Most that say places are horrible just don't go out much, lol.

    Also check bookit and orbitz/travelocity for prices. I've seen the same trip cost $400 different between sites.

    (ps - not sure what flights are like to DR from your place, but I"ve heard that there is NOTHING to do outside the resorts there. So if it's a PITA to get to, or more money for the same product, you might find Mexico, Playa, Coz, etc. a better deal, there's things to see outside the resort.

    And for cruises, vacationstogo has a nice sort feature and some KILLER deals. )

    We stopped there on a cruise. I will say that it was not the highlight of the trip. If you want to stay on campus of the hotel, great. But everything outside of the campus is basically a dry wasteland. Everything is brown and it's obviously a very poor area so you feel guilty for being on vacation. (or I did anyway.)

    This is great advice.  We wouldn't venture outside the resort.  We're looking for mindless, relaxation.  :-)  But I'll check out tripadvisor and those other sites you recommended.  We got a quote through a travel agent, but I'll check the cost on those sites too.  We really liked Jamaica, but didn't leave the resort except to go to and from the airport.  It's also really, really poverty stricken too and we heard some stories of intense moments at farmer's markets and stuff.  So we just stayed "in our happy place".  :-)

    Didn't stay there but we stayed at Excellence Punta Cana in DR for our honeymoon and LOVED it.  But it is an adult only resort so not sure if that matters or not.  I would go there again. We stayed for 7days and only left resort once for an excursion.  Have Fun:)
