3rd Trimester

Really Mom?

Last night at dinner I told my family that I wanted nature to take its course. Meaning, staying at home as long as I can (contractions, water breaking etc) cause I really don't want to be induced.  Mom said honey, once you get to the 38 ish week you'll want that child out of you.  Then she rolled her eyes!  Really Mom.  Sure I'll be uncomfortable, but crap I really don't want to be induced.

*I'm sure people will start flaming, but that's how I feel. So if you don't agree with me, then sorry.

Re: Really Mom?

  • I don't think anyone wants to be induced (unless medically necessary or have a DH in the military).  I have the same plan, I just hope it works.

  • I get anxious and nervous because I hope my LO will come before I become induced! I mean I been uncomfortable since 30 weeks I can hang 2 more weeks ! Lol
  • You're right mom, I have NO idea how uncomfortable I'll be, but I still don't want to be induced unless medically necessary.  I agree with you!  Unless you're way past due, I don't agree with inductions that are not medically necessary.
  • If you had said you wanted an induction for comfort reasons, you'd be flamed.  Wanting your LO to cook as long as needed is the best decision for your child.  I think that inductions/c-sections should only be used if medically necessary.  Otherwise, your body should do what it's supposed to.

    *ETA*

There are certain circumstances, like military husband as pp mentioned, that have exceptions.

  • You'll definitely get no flames from this corner!  I told my mom that I want to go natural as long as possible, even though I do plan to get an epi.  She just laughed and said "oh, you'll never make it".  I got sooooo pissed and told her in no uncertain terms that if she wasn't going to be supportive, she wouldn't be welcome during my labor.

I think she got the message that I am serious.

  • at 38 wks I wanted baby out...but I still didnt want to be induced for fear of a c/s or just for the fact that it felt odd planning it. For medical reasons I would have, but I just did all I could to naturally go into labor alone. Sex works btw =) I did change my mind with not getting my water broken, I did pretty quickly and it helped me along. I would do it again.

  • I don't want to be induced either, but I know that if I go past a certain time (1 or 2 wks I think from EDD), my doc will want to induce.

But, if you mean you want to stay home for a while once labor starts, there's no problem in that as far as I know.  We were told to go to the hospital when contractions are 5mins apart for an hour so that's probably what we'll do.  I'm getting an epi but hopefully won't need anything else to help labor progress.  However, if I do go into labor & then stop progressing, I'm not going to say no when they suggest Pitocen to help get things moving again (I don't want to be in labor forever!)

  • I'm doing the same thing actually. Staying at home as long as possible before going in. I don't want to be in the hospital longer then I need to be. I'm praying I make it to at least 4cm before we go in, maybe 6 but doubtful. Hard to tell without a doc. being here. Lol. I think it's just the way we are. Our Mom's did it a different way and if we don't agree then we're just plan old wrong and weird!
  • Ditto to other pp's. My OB wanted to induce me at 39 weeks because of my age and I declined. When the baby is ready to come out, she'll make her presence know.

  • Oh I know how you feel!  SIL was visiting this weekend and kept saying  she's hoping that I deliver this week during the full moon.  The first few times I just brushed it off but it got really old really fast.  Just because she was done at 38 weeks and her baby came early doesn't mean mine will be ready to! She said, "You're full term now... nothing important is developing now." Yeah, I was thisclose to smacking her.
