So much of what's out there is just not cute (to me)! All those "boy-themed" prints are a) way too stereotyped for my taste, and b) ugly.
Case in point:

Was just looking at the Carter's online store and for 1-piece footed jammies they have construction, jungle, basketball, monsters...ugh. What a letdown.
And you know...those themes can be cute if done right but there's something about the older boys' clothes, they just tend to be not as cute as infant clothing.
(Again, just my opinion of course...I mean no offense to anyone who likes those prints.)

I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
Now I did like the t-shirt/short set that had the digger on the shirt but that was because the rest of the outfit was simple, and the fact that DS loves Diggers and Dump trucks.
But otherwise yeah I agree, i am constantly on the search for cute understated boys clothes and I keep coming up with stuff covered in cars.
DS loves that kind of stuff but really it isn't necesary in every outfit. I did find some cute plain shirts and shorts at Target.
I totally agree. And I'm still new to the boy clothing game!
I was in Costco the other day, sifting through some piles of Carters outfits that they had for $6, trying to find something I liked. I thought my husband was next to me (he wasn't) when I grabbed a bunch of stuff I wasn't terribly fond of and said - Why does our son have to work construction?!?!? Can't he have other career ambitions at this early stage??!
Then I realized I was by myself. Two of the women next to me thought I was pretty funny, but I was pretty embarrassed.
Same thing happened to me this weekend!!

We're having Jake's "Baby Welcoming" ceremony this Saturday, so I figured there would surely be a cute Easter outfit in the stores for me to buy for him. It was tough, but I finally decided on a super cute Cynthia Rowley seersucker suit from BRU.
Boys clothes are sometimes not as cute as girl stuff, but at least we don't have to deal with ruffles, bows, and a potential obsession with the color pink!
Exactly this!
I was gonna say this too! It was such a problem (and still is sometimes now that DD is older) to find stuff that doesn't say "Diva" "Spoiled" and "Princess". Um, hello, not a fan for my 2 year old or my 12 year old.
As much as I loathe Walmart I have found really great clothes for both of the boys there... they carry Garanimals which make me happy! Mix and match solids and stripes! No stupid characters.
My exceptions are robots. Love me some robots.
Try a different Target. I just got a really cute outfit for DS for Easter there, and they had several different ones. Also cute tees, polos and shorts on sale!
Though I have to say, I thought the monster jammies were pretty cute... But I only like that sort of thing on pajamas. And I hate construction stuff...period.
ugh, i hate clothes with sayings in general... although my DD does have a cute shirt with hearts
.
Boy clothes selection stinks!!! I always feel so bad b/c i have b/g twins and just gravitate to the girl section & find tons of cute stuff and then force myself over to the boy selection & find like 2 things.
Oh & about those Carters pjs- I was just in the store the other day & I wanted short sleeved but footed pjs for summer. Whole rack of girl ones. Only ONE boy one that I could find (and that store is packed w/ clothes, it's an outlet) and they didn't even have the size I wanted. Ugh.
Joey, Ronnie, and Audrey,
my awesome IUI 30 week twins, and my surprise miracle
LOVE my SAIF ladies
Nah, don't feel lame! I like that stuff too (as long as it doesn't say Mommy's little boy or something...)! The thing I hate is dogs but only b/c we got sooooo many freakin dog things when they were born
This exactly. Jake loves monkeys, and we have so many monkey clothes. His daddy is really into cars, so we have lots of car clothes. When I dress him up, the Gap and ON have lots of perfect, inexpensive clothes. He's already in 18m and 24m clothes and I'm sad his days in the cute Carter's stuff are almost over.
Why would I want my newborn boys to wear pajamas with hammers and wrenches on them? Seriously.
They should make baby girl clothes with curling irons and lipsticks on them.
Totally agree! I post about this all.the.time.
I HATE all the "crap" on boy stuff......I actually don't really shop at Carter's, Gymboree, etc. I can't do the "theme" stuff.
My boys are basically in plaid shorts, khakis and plain polos all the time.
I don't mind the sleepers having junk on them b/c I could care less what they sleep in, but the clothes drive me insane.
Its so hard to find "cute" stuff.....and it doesn't make it any easier that most stores have half of what they have from girl stuff,.......
sigh......
