::totally butting in here::
So yeah I couldn't get past the first chapter of twilight before becoming bored out of my mind. I did however love the movie and am renting new moon this weekend.
::totally butting out now::
not yet. it's still... "in hiding."
I had a busy weekend but I have plans to crack it open this wednesday when dh goes away on a business trip. I did see some of the movie on cable this weekend. I couldn't help myself. did I ruin the book by watching 45 minutes of it? uh ohhh.

Nah.... but I will tell you not to judge the book by the movie.
The movie sucked BAD by comparison - but don't they usually?
DH hasn't read them but was forced to sit thru both movies and his response is: "I just don't get it. What does she see in him?"
You really need the book(s) to get the connection between the 2 of them.
Enjoy! And update me. I love watching newbies come over to the dark side.
HA!

::Butting In:::
I am like Howley and have joined the "dark side". I love Twilight and the books are a lot better than the movies. My DH even read them and wanted to see the movies along with me.
I would give it a second try. WHen I was in college the Harry Potter books came out and I tried to read the first one and put it down after 2 chapters and wondered what people liked about them. A few months later I decided to try again and read the whole first book before I threw in the towel. Ended up loving them and reading all 7. Same thing with Twilight. The beginning is kind of slow, give it one whole book before you throw in the towel and then you will be one of us!! ::insert evil laugh::
I'm not one for vampires it's just that I'm so fascinated by all the hype. I'm crazy curious to experience what everyone is talking about.
(plus the hot english actor reminds me of my ex.) oooolala!

I can't remember who said it here (or if it was someone on the Twilight board - yup.... there's a twilight board on the nest's book club board) but this quote sums up the books perfectly for me:
"Stephanie Myer is an AWFUL writer but a good story teller"
They certainly won't win any literary awards but they're incredibly entertaining.

I'm not really into vamps or sci-fi stuff either but the book is really much more about the love story (or stories as it turns out). The vamp stuff is just the setting and tool that brings heightened energy and drama to push the love story beyond your average every day kinda love story.
At least that's my opinion.
And I think the trick is that the lead female character really is "every girl."
She's described as clumsy and not overwhelmingly attractive and yet she garners the complete love and devotion of this creature who should never love any human... much less her (in her opinion).

It shouldn't. Just curious, what part of the movie did you see? Begninng, middle, end?
from the baseball game until the end.

You will be fine. The book has more detail in a lot of those parts so you really get a better understanding of her feelings for Edward than you see in the movie. It is like you are in her head a lot more.
::butting in too::
Don't get your hopes up too much.. I have a SERIOUS love for all things witchy (charmed! Buffy! Harry potter!) etc etc and I HATED both the book and the movies.. dont' get me started.
I just could deal with hundreds of pages of "I love you Edward".."No, I love you MORE Bella" ad nauseum!
Having said that, apparently I am the only woman on the planet that feels this way LOL!
now this makes me even more curious.
and I HATED harry potter. I got through 2 or 3 chapters and donated the book.
I promised myself if I did read twilight cover to cover I would have to go back and dust off some old tolstoy -- maybe anna karenina.

I said it!
  It's the warning I give everyone before they read them.  I'm pretty snobby about writing, but these are still worth reading because of the story.  But the bad writing is why I'm still embarrassed that I like them so much!
