DIY ring sling help please

I am finally going to attempt to make a ring sling and thought you ladies would be a good source for some tips.  I am using the instructions from https://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/sling.html and have read her section on fabric but am still slightly confused.  Has anyone made one and can recommend a suitable fabric?  I am really paranoid to use the wrong type.  I don't want it to be too heavy and hot when I wear it, but want it to be safe. Another queston I had is that I am a bigger girl, should I use a longer piece of fabric?  Thanks!

Also any other tips would be greatly appreciated.  I am ordering the aluminum rings from slingrings.com.

  • I tried one with osnaburg but it was too stiff so I remade it with linen and love it.

  • I made a few and know little about fabric..... but go to the "shirting" section and look around. I would always put the swath of fabric around me to get a feel for whether I would like it.  FWIW I never sewed the shoulder of my ring slings that way I could take the rings off and throw the material in the washer (my DD was a puker up to 8mo).
