How to train your dragon..

I'll admit up front that DD is a bit of a scardey-cat. (almost 3)

We went to see How to train your Dragon  friday night.  She LOVED the commercials and has been carrying around her McDonalds dragons for days.  So, feeling optimistic, we went for it.

Bottom line, too scary.  We were up and down and in and out of the theater the whole time.  Glad that it was both DH and  I so that we could take turns and each see a bit of it.   The beginning has lots of scary dragon chase battle scenes/destruction, etc.  It takes quite a while to get to the less scary "fun with flying dragons" parts, but no relief there, there's another big scary bit at the end.

I am certain that most kids will go flipping crazy for it and love every minute, but for DD, it was too much.

  • Good to know... I am sure my almost 5 y.o. would be scared. We had to walk out of UP and can't finish watching freaking Toy Story because he's scared (where the boy breaks toys and makes scary toys).

  • My DD is NOT a scaredy-cat, but was a bit scared during some parts of the movie.  She was o.k. just holding our hands during the scary parts, but it is a bit dark with a lot of battle scenes.

  • B mentioned a few scary parts too over the weekend but she loved it, she's been talking about it all weekend.

  • my girls totally loved it yesterday.  my dh took my almost 2 and 3 year old to see it.  it was my 2 year olds first movie.  granted, he said she slept for the last 20 minutes, but he said she really liked it.  it was all my 3 year old talked about all night.  something about hiccups.

  • The marketing tie-ins to that movie are really out-of-control. I went to Wal-Mart the other day (I know, Wal-mart.....) and there was HTTYD candy, underwear, bathing suits, pajamas, T-shirts, dozens of different action figures, school supplies, beach towels, sheets, pillows, etc. DS can't wait to see the movie.
  • DD just turned 3 we went with my mom.  I remember some spots I turned to DD who was sitting on my moms lap thinking she might be scared.  She seemed ok, but I could definatley see where some kids might be scared.
  • DS is almost 4 and he is super scary. He has never seen any movie in its entirety because he is just too scared during dark and/or suspenseful scenes.

He runs out the room crying and screaming during Cars when the truck is falling asleep on the highway (in the beginning of the movie). He runs out of the room or hides behind the couch often when he watches Dora (especially when there is a troll on)! There's no way in hell he could see this movie right now.
