had the varicocelectomy surgery and can you please tell me what is to be expected, my DH doctor has told us nothing and everytime I call the nurse she never returns my call or DH and acts like I'm interrupting her day. Any feedback please about the pre-op to the post-op including improvements or lack there of is welcomed.
Thanks so much ladies.
Re: Has anyone's DH...
My DH didn't have that particular surgery, but your doctor's office shouldn't treat you so rudely. Just my personal opinion but if my DH's Uro had treated him or me like they didn't have time for us or couldn't be bothered I would have found a different doctor.
Good Luck with the surgery!

The varicocele surgery wasn't too bad for DH. It lasted about an hour and the recovery time was pretty quick. He was a little sore afterwards, but nothing awful and actually returned to work a day or two later. We didn't notice a significant improvement in my DH's morphology. It was at 0% and only went up to 1% at his second post-op SA, however he had experienced pain from the varicocele which was gone when it was removed. Good luck!
ETA: My husband's situation was "atypical" according to the MFI urologist since usually a varicocele affects all of the parameters and not just morph.
Thanks ladies, and I do agree I wanted to find a different doc but we are limited with MFI docs in the area. Thats the one thing I am worried about all his numbers getting worse after the surgery.
My husband had the surgery. He was super sore and swollen for about 4 days after, and was then able to go back to work. The soreness lessened but did last for about 6 weeks. Make sure to ICE it a lot and we got a special scrotal support from a medical supply store that really helped at first....then he transitioned to a jock strap.
I have some tips in my blog (link below) if you're interested. On the right sidebar at the bottom there is a tag word for "varicocelectomy." Good luck!

I agree that your office shouldn't treat you like that..
My DH was diagnosed with a double vericocele in August and had corrective surgery at the end of August. In all of his SA's post-surgery, his numbers have went up (and they weren't low to begin with) and his morph is normal (which was his original issue). The surgery has been very successful for us.
It was an out-patient surgery and he really didn't have a lot of pain from the surgery. The anesthesia was rough but it always is for him. His surgery was Wednesday morning and Thursday he went to work for a few hours. He is a college coach so he wasn't doing a lot of his normal things (throwing batting practice, hitting, ect.) but he did office work Thursday. Friday I had surgery and he took care of me all weekend. He was back to normal within a week.
Good luck! I hope the surgery is as successful for your husband as it was for mine!
