i noticed that some of our CD's stink. and they're clean. i've got mostly FB w/the microfleece inserts. i've got a couple BB w/the hemp/microfleece inserts. i went through the stash and figured i'd re-wash the stinky ones.
ran a regular wash (DS always seems to poop right after i've washed diapers!). ran a wash w/no detergent but added a little dawn. thinking about having DH run a wash w/nothing at all just to make sure it rinses. (we have a front loader and i can't see in to check for suds).
think this'll work?
Re: stink issues
Do you have an HE? We just got rid of our stinkies by setting our HE machine to sanitize with extra water and an extra rinse cycle with just a bit of dawn, then repeated with a little bit of regular tide (I know you're not supposed to use regular in an he but we're waiting for our new rockin green and it could be awhile so I had to do something and I heard tide he stinks for CD's) anyway for the first time, NO stinkies AT ALL!!! yay! Good luck!
I found this to be true when it was clean smelling out of the dryer and then funk when peed on. I also switched detergents (felt it could be like shampoos - your clothes get too used to one detergent and a switch may fix things?). I went from Crunchy Clean to Tide. I recently went back to Crunchy Clean now that they have a version for hard water.
I think switching does wonders too
We really like Tide as long as we do enough rinses to get it out...otherwise the pail ends up smelling like sour Tide fragrance. Although I will say, that is far better to the barnyard smell we had while using the Thirsties detergent. That stuff was not strong enough...and super expensive.
I just had really bad stink from a failing top loader, and our new front loader wasn't fixing it on it's own. I finally boiled them twice (3 liners at a time for 5 minutes) and did a final rinse/wash of the liners with bleach, then hung them on the line. They smell brand new finally! It was a lot of work, but so worth it.
And thanks for the Calgon tip....we have hard water and used to use it, but forgot about it. How much do you guys use in a front loader?
