Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

thinking about cutting out diet soda - anybody else?

i only drink 2 cans of diet soda/day but i thought it may help.

I'm 10 pounds from my goal weight and i've been stuck for a month.  last night I watched "Ruby" and her therapist suggested she make 5 changes in her life to kind of "shake up" her weight loss...she cut out diet soda and it really made a difference.

anyone do this?  what were your results?  did you cut out caffeine all-together or just replace w/ coffee/tea?

  • I've done it twice, and could not function w/o my caffeine! I went back to diet soda after a few days. I don't like coffee or tea so maybe if you can get your caffeine fix some other way it may be fine, GL!

  • oh - and the reason they say to cut out diet drinks has nothing to do with caffeine. as the book "skinny biitch" puts it - "aspertame is like formaldehyde for your fat ass" ie: it preserves it LOL

LOL, pretty much this.  I was much healthier and it was a lot easier for me to maintain my weight back in the day when I never drank soda.  Oddly enough, WW is the reason I started drinking diet coke ("0" points) and now it's an addiction.

  • i don't drink soda at all (well...like maybe once a month), but i've had several friends ditch it and instantly lose weight.  also, imo, it's better to have maybe 1 regular coke than 2-3 diet pops - the aspartame is pretty gross and imo has negative affects on your health beyond weight.

  • I don't drink enough as it is, so that wouldn't help me much. When I think about it, I try not to cut out, so much as add. Maybe drink a full glass of water before I have a soda, something like that.

I switched regular soda for diet in 2005. It made a HUGE difference.

  • explain:  "it made a huge difference."  did you lose weight by switching to regular?
  • I don't get Style so I don't get to watch "Ruby" anymore.Sad  I quit drinking diet soda when I got pregnant and never started again.  I think it has made a huge difference in how I feel over all and I definitely have a much smaller stomach than pre-pregnancy.  Oh, and no headaches anymore.
  • I cut out all pop about two weeks ago. I will substitute it for iced tea, like if we are out to eat so I guess I haven't eliminated caffeine. I don't think I have lost weight, but definitely feel less bloated. My motivation was that I had a cavity and I hate going to the dentist so much, I wanted to eliminate it with hopes that it will keep my teeth healthier.

And honestly, stuff like that is why the WW method drives me nuts. It doesn't penalize people for eating artificial sweetners and other foods with all kinds of artificial additives and you can eat as much fat free crap as you want. (Sorry, this topic bugs me Embarrassed)

  • I should - definitely one of my vices.  DH is even worse.  I quit when I was pregnant and only had regular soda here and there.  My problem is that I don't like coffee so I rely on Diet Mt. Dew or Dr. P to keep me awake in class...bad, bad, bad.

I keep telling myself that as soon as the semesters over, I'm kicking my soda and chocolate crutches to the curb.

  • I really should cut out diet soda again. I drink about 6 cans of diet pepsi a day. When I did it before I really did feel better but it is so hard to give up.

  • I drink diet for the fizz.  so, sometimes when I'm feeling guilty about it, I drink soda water with a splash of cranberry juice so I get the fizzies w/o the other junk.
