Re: Weekly Check In!

  • C is amazing me lately. He is just growing way too fast! In the past week he has nearly mastered the sippy cup, learned to clap and started trying very hard to crawl (still aways to go on that one).

He still has no teeth, which blows my mind since he has been gumming hard on everything in sight for months. We actually introduced a few super soft table foods and he has been loving roasted sweet potato fries and Mum Mums (side note: if anyone knows of something similar to these that is are not made in China, I would love to know! He loves them, but I didn't realize their country of origin and I'm just not keen on baby food from China.)

And he's been super smiley and not having any stranger anxiety yet, so people seem to think he's just the cutest thing. He's a very social little kid, so far.

  • We are doing well. I'm making preparations for DD's first birthday party in June and becoming so sentimental. It seems like just yesterday that I found out I was preggers and now my little girl will be turning one. I can't believe it.

DD was really fussy yesterday morning and she holding her ear so we took her to Kaiser Urgent Care. It turns out that she has her first ear infection. I've got to hand it to you ladies that deal with this over and over. It is tough and I feel so bad for her. We got some medication so hopefully it will get better soon. It just breaks my heart to see her in such misery.

DD had her 9 month check-up last week and everything was fine except that the Pedi is worried that she is not crawling, scooting or even getting on her hands and knees. So, the Pedi said that if she doesn't make progress within the next 6 weeks that we need to call her. She also gave me the number to a government program in Montgomery County that does evaluations for motor skill delays. So, I'm thinking about calling them. DD seems fine in every other area but she just doesn't like being on her tummy and she won't get up on her hands and knes. The Pedi also recommended that we try to help her get on her hands and knees so we've been doing our own version of Physical Therapy at home but I don't know if it will help. Anyway, if anyone has any advice or a similar situation I would love to hear about it.

Other than that, life is good in our household. DD also started clapping recently, she waves all of the time, and she finally started engaging in the "Touch and Feel" books. Her smile melts my heart everyday and she's just been such a joy in our lives.

  • DD is growing in leaps and bounds, but what impresses us most is her vocabulary. Some days she gets about 5 new words. Her most recent is "thank you!" (said "tank oo") which she says whenever we hand her something or even when she picks up something for herself. She is still working on walking and took 4 independent steps this weekend, but it looks like she'll be slower on that front.

We're still adjusting to the transition to a new class at daycare. I felt better about it last week after a meeting with her old and new teacher, but today felt bad when I dropped her off. She's having a tough week with getting over an illness and teething, so this is the worst time to do something like this. I worry for her.

  • DD loves the Mum mums too. We have moved on to the toddler ones and strawberry is her fav.

Otherwise, we had a good check up on Friday and she tolerated her two shots pretty well. She is still on the small side but the doctor is not worried. he was very impressed with her walking, use of the word no and her general curiosity :-)

We are having a great time with her and everyday she is doing something new. this is such a fun age!

  • ack, baby food made in China!

I am constantly amazed by the sweetness and innocence of this age. We'll go for a walk and I'll point out a squirrel and she'll start saying "hi" over and over, chasing after the squirrel. It kinda breaks my heart a little that the squirrel doesn't say "hi" back!

Other than eczema and what is either a cold or bad teething (rough night for all), DD is doing great and a real joy. She starts at pre-school/day care in 3 weeks and of course I'm totally freaking out about it. I worry that the teachers won't understand her b/c she is bi-lingual and says certain things in Russian only. (for example, the word that sounds like poop is actually the Russian word for belly button).

We still have not moved DD to her new room and really need to get on it!

I'm now 29weeks along and getting to the perpetually-exhausted stage.

hope everyone else is doing well. Is anyone going to DC next weekend? We are going to try to go on Sat to see the cherry blossoms.

  • LO is doing great overall. Pedi determined that he was underweight and anemic at his 9 month check up so we've been dealing with that. He's on iron supplement twice a day and takes them amazingly well. He opens his mouth right up and swallows it down with no issues. I'm so happy we don't have to stress about him taking it. He's very particular about texture and he seems to have a dairy intolerance so helping him gain weight is much harder than the iron part. I was making all of his food but broke down and bought several Earth's Best jars with meat in them and he really likes them. I found one with 7 grams of fat so he gets that one at least 3 times a week. Smile

He's really becoming his own little person these days. He's very social and  has very little stranger anxiety. He's clapping, signing a bit, he puts his hands together to pray (they pray over meals at school) and is pulling up. He's army crawling and gets on his hands and knees but won't actually full out crawl anywhere. He definitely understands what we say and actually reponds when we call his name when he's playing with something he's not suppose to. Lot's of babbling but not really hearing any words yet. I think he's definitely developing faster on the social front than the physical and language but overall I think he's on track.

  • DS had his 6-month appointment last week (a little late) and is moving up the growth charts! He's in the 25-50th for height and 25th for weight. She also said he has "advanced social skills," probably because he babbles ALL THE TIME. He also has, not so much stranger anxiety as stranger awareness - he is very aware of new people and surroundings, really observant, and sometimes will get a little upset if we hand him off to someone and he can't see us. But once he warms up to people he's a total charmer.

He's sitting up like a champ, and loves playing with blocks. He also started scooting a little bit the other night. We recently discovered his love of music (beyond kid stuff) - he was jamming to Jimi Hendrix and Barenaked Ladies this weekend, and doing some dancing when DH played guitar.

We think he's allergic to banana, so we've been told to hold off on all fruits. But he's eating sweet potatoes and butternut squash, rice cereal and oatmeal. We've also totally weaned him off the swaddle, which both sucks and blows. It takes him longer to fall asleep at night, and he wakes up when he rolls onto his stomach. I think it wouldn't be so bad except he loses his pacifier, so we end up going in. I don't think we'll be doing that much longer, though.

He's teething but doesn't seem all that bothered by it - like eeclem, I feel like these teeth have been coming in forever. Hello? Teeth? Where are you? Otherwise, I'm seriously loving this age.

  • We're doing well! Our trip to Pittsburgh this weekend was a success, the car ride went really well Friday night and surprisingly well yesterday afternoon too. DH put him to sleep by himself for the first time while I was at the bachelorette party on Saturday night. It went well and he did have to get up twice with him before I got home (WAY too late for my new mommy schedule...how in the world did I used to stay out until 4am?). He officially loves that I breastfeed even more now, he hated heating up bottles at night!

DS and I are home this week on spring break and I am so excited to spend the week with him. He is laughing up a storm, playing with all kinds of toys, causing a flood on the floor when he takes a bath. He is such a happy baby! Still a really cruddy sleeper, but being off work this week makes it much easier to handle! I have learned to just enjoy the time at night and appreciate that he needs me...time is already going way too fast!

  • We're doing very well. Mini's this close to walking, it seems like. She keeps trying to let go and walk, but then just decides to sit down instead. She's a champion crawler, though, so I don't know how motivated she is to walk. We had her 3rd swim class this weekend, and she loves it. We gave her blueberries, cut in half, last week, for the first time, and she decided that she didn't like the outside, I guess, because she sucked the inside out and left the blue part.
  • DD is walking- she'd been able to take about 2 steps on her own before falling on her butt for the past 2-3 weeks and just the weekend before this past one she took more than that. Now she walks every chance she gets. She loves been on eye level with the dogs now and finds them insanely funny. She's also loving cheerios and bananas but still has gagging trouble with other foods. We also just introduced yogurt this past weekend which she loved. I'm on the lookout for an allergic reaction to dairy though since I was allergic as a kid and she didn't tolerate it well as an infant when I was on dairy. So we'll keep trying yogurt and see how it goes so that we can make the switch to  milk in a few weeks.

I can't believe she's almost a year. It's amazing how her personality is coming out now.

  • DD is doing really well.  She is talking up a storm, last week she learned uh oh and she loves creating situations to use it now.  Drop something, "uh oh".  Destroy mommy's block tower, "uh oh".  So cute.  She's up to a dozen words and is really starting to take off vocabulary wise.  I feel rather blessed because I am not sure I narrated everything to her like I was supposed to.  It's not that we don't chat, we do, a lot, but talking through diaper changes got old after a while.  I like giving zerberts better.  Which BTW DD is the queen of.  Now she will give them to strangers as well.  She thinks they are very funny.

DD is still not walking but you can tell she wants to.  She can stand independantly and will walk with push toys, hands, holding on to anything, but she gets a little nervous when it is her on her own.  She is fearless with stairs though.  This weekend she started climbing them with toys in her hands.  She is considering learning how to go downstairs.  Right now she just eyes it and thinks hard.  I usually sweep her up before she attempts.  I've been practicing teaching her to go down backwards, but I am thankful she hasn't taken that p on her own.

We have shower doors instead of a curtain in our bathroom, I discovered this weekend while showering that DD also like showering,  She opened the door and was laughing at all the spray coming out at her.  When I was done, she was soaked through so I lifter her up and in and she just thought it was the neatest thing.  Since baths can be contentious, maybe showers are the way to go?

I posted on here a lot earlier about DD and sleep, I am so happy to update that we have worked really hard on this and it is so much better.  Now we brush teeth, read books, nurse, I put her down, she cries, I leave the room, DH comes up and spends a few minutes and she sometimes cries, sometimes wimpers, sometimes plays quietly but is usually asleep within a half hour.  I think she sees me as a softie (I am) and having DH take care of the staying in bed and going to sleep makes a big difference.

  • DS is six months, and I feel like he's grown so much recently! Rolling both ways, introducing solids, wanting to pull up to sitting or standing while holding on - what a big guy!

We've said goodbye to his activity mat (he got frustrated rolling into its arms) and our beloved swing (his kicks of joy shake it, plus he's more into trying to sit up than recline anymore). We're hoping the jumperoo love kicks in - he likes it but has not figured out the joy of jumping yet.

I posted a review of Ferberizing DS separately awhile back but in a nutshell - hearing baby cry is hard, sleeping more is great.

  • Glad to hear everyone is doing so well!

DS is doing great.  His favorite thing right now is to be outside, and no matter how long we stay out, he gets upset when it's time to come back in.

I am always amazed at how much he knows and picks up on.  He is actually really good at puzzles and is quite determined when it comes to getting them right.  He loves books, so we spend quite a bit of time reading, which I love because it is the only time he will cuddle--ther rest of the time, that child is on the move!

This pregnancy is going well, but I am worn out a lot...I'm guessing work and chasing a toddler have something to do with that.  We are not even close to being prepared for #2's arrival so hopefully we get everything done at some point!

  • Not much new with DD - still no progress on potty training.  I tried another tactic (since getting her to use the potty to earn M&Ms has failed) of setting a timer, and every time it rang, I would check her.  If she was dry, she got a mini chocolate chip.  I think it lasted twelve minutes.  It's hard to give it focused, intensive attention because of DS's needs and DH working so much.  But we'll have to do a big push soon because she needs to potty independently by Labor Day - or we lose a year's tuition for preschool!

DS is hitting the stage where there's new stuff all the time.  His tummy-to-back rolling is getting better, so he can flip himself back over in the crib.  He's doing OK with solids - I'm currently steaming some sweet potatoes to puree, because they're his favorite.  I made all DD's baby food, and I plan to do the same for him, but finding the time to get big batches done is tough.  He cut his first tooth a few days ago (we had no idea it was even close), and the one next to it is popping through as well.  Still not too good at sitting, though.  My "little" guy is a beast - can't wait to see his stats at his appointment this week.  He's getting uncomfortable to keep in a carrier for long, and I'm going to start leaving his car seat in the car - can't get it in or out (with him in it) without wrenching my back.  His eczema is still stubbornly refusing to go away, so I hope to make progress with that.

Vtkendra - my DD was a late crawler.  At your DD's age, we couldn't get her up on her hands and knees, either - she'd *just* started accepting tummy time.  Suddenly right before ten months, she started pushing backwards around the living room (sort of in the army crawl position), and then out of nowhere she was scooting herself all over the house in a semi-crawl.  It blew my mind - she went from zero to sixty in about two weeks.  She never did a classic on-all-fours crawl; she preferred doing it on one knee and one foot.  And she walked just before her first birthday.  I understand getting her evaluated for peace of mind and potentially encouraging the crawling (DD's pediatrician practically chastised us for her never rolling; made us feel awful), but hopefully she's just doing things on her own schedule.  Good luck!

  • I'll be the first pregnant one to chime in:)

We had a doctor's appointment on Friday.  Everything looks good.  My labs are showing no signs of diabetes - which make me very happy:)

The 20 week ultrasound is one week from today.  We don't want to know the gender and the doctor reassured us that they never write on the chart and that he won't even know.  That way no one says it by accident.

I can't believe I almost half way done!

  • We're doing well.  I started back at work full time last week and we all survived the new logistics of getting 2 kids and 2 adults out the door together in the morning--it's just really exhausting at this point! I think DD#1 was more upset about leaving DD#2 at day care the first day than DH or I were...great parents, we are, eh?

DD#2 has done really well with daycare, which is such a relief to me...she takes bottles like a champ and seems to be napping well. She's also started to sleep better at night--most nights I am just waking up once to nurse.  It took us MONTHS to get to that point with DD#1. We had DD#2's 2 month check up last week and she is practically off the charts for height and weight...I am already putting on some 6 mth outfits on her and really need to go through the boxes of DD#1's clothes, since I am starting to run out of options in her current collection. This past week she has started to discover her hands and it's pretty funny to watch her study her hand with a look of complete curiousity. Overall, she seems to be a pretty happy baby, with lots of smiles.

We are headed to NYC this weekend for DD#2's baptism and I am very much looking forward to seeing my whole family--my dad, brother and sister-in-law have not gotten to meet the new little one yet, neither have my ILs, so it should be a good time for all.  The drive up with 2 kids Thursday night I am not so much looking forward to...

DD#1 has adapted pretty well to being a big sister, though she tells DH and I all the time how much she loves us, which is definitely endearing and I think is probably just her way of checking in and making sure everything is okay.  We are working on night potty training, which seems to work best when I wake her up in the middle of the night to pee.

    That's all from my end!

THIS! DS loves blueberries, but we always find the skins on his sippy cup or on his bib well after he finished the berry part. But he is doing so well. He swallowed a nickel on Saturday and so, we had to go to the ER and they had to knock him out to get it. Traumatizing!! Needless to say- we're in the midst of totally re-babyproofing the house to make sure we got everything. Also, he too is sssooo close to walking- which is just another reminder to babyproof stuff asap!

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I'm trying not to get too worried about it and to let her do things at her own pace. The Pedi wasn't trying to alarm me but she said just to keep an eye on it. Your story is encouraging to hear and I hope DD will make some progress like that in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we are trying to put her on her tummy even more and work with her about trying to move and getting her knees under her body.

  • DS is 3 months old today and he continues to amaze me every day.  We are beginning to get on a bit more of a routine, though he still naps in his swing. He is a very happy baby and smiles and coos all day long.  He can track me across the room and always smiles when he sees me, it really does melt my heart.

He has begun to actually grab at some toys and put htings in his mouth, I never thought i would be so proud:-)

He is a chunker, at 3 months he was 26 inches and 15lbs 10 oz....

His favorite activities include swinging, sitting in the bumbo and exploring hsi activity mat.  He has fantastic head control.

I still HATE pumping all the time but am doing it for him.  Thats all:-)

    I love reading everybody's updates

  • DS is going to be 23 months tomorrow!  I can't believe how fast the second year has gone by!  The kid has changed so much this year.  I thought that the changes slowed down as they aged, but it doesn't really seem to be the case thus far.

He has become a little chatterbox.  It's amazing to me, as I used to be worried about whether he was keeping up developmentally in verbal skills.  I definitely don't have to worry about it any more!  He seriously talks non-stop from the time he gets up until the time he goes to sleep.  He is even learning to talk around his sippy cup as he drinks his milk in the morning, and it's difficult to teach him to not talk with his mouth full of food.  I alternate between wanting him to just be quiet for two seconds and being in complete amazement at the little person he has become.  Then I wonder how much he'll be saying by the time he's 3 or 4.

DC #2 is the reason I came back to the Bump.  I was getting rather bored with it, but he/she has caused some major m/s and I'm being much lazier and indoorsy than I usually am at this time of the year.  I feel kind of bad about it as far as DS goes.  He isn't happy staying at home all of the time, but we often need to leave wherever we are early b/c I'm just feeling too ill to continue.  I'm really hoping that m/s doesn't last as long as it did with my first pregnancy, but I guess even if it does, having it start 2 weeks earlier means that I'm 2 weeks further along than last time, right?

  • DD1 (almost 3.5) doesn't stop talking. ever. This is nothing new, but she's been getting on my nerves recently with the 8000 questions an hour, especially since I know she already knows the answer 99% of the time. I repeat the question back to her and she answers. Little stinker. She's on spring break from preschool this week, but we have activites scheduled for tomorrow and Thurs mornings, which is when she's normally at school.

DD2 (will be 13m next week) is walking a lot now. She still crawls a fair amount, but she's upright more often than not now. She nods yes and shakes her head no, which comes in SO handy when trying to figure out what she wants. She's doing a few signs consistently (more, all done, drink, play) and says some words (mama, dad, yay, uh oh, bll (balloon)) and sings lalalala. I love that she can now listen when I tell her to do something.

I'm starting to have baby fever again. We've been undecided about a 3rd and haven't been trying (we had to try with timed intercourse for almost a year to get pg both times), but not preventing either. I think there's a part of me that would love to just get pg with no effort at all!

  • Fun updates! :-)

DD has passed the 11 month mark and is so much fun. Still no signs of standing/walking. She was an early crawler (6 mo) and has been cruising since Jan. I know she's not even 12 months yet but I'm surprised she hasn't been trying to stand more. She has been "knee walking" so maybe standing is around the corner. (?) Or more likely is that I'm a pushy mom!

Lots of ma-ma, da-da, finger pointing, etc. She loves it when we tell her to bring us things. She understands specific toys and will respond to these commands in English (from me), French (from DH), and Spanish (from the nanny). It's pretty cool and I kind of have the feeling she knows more than she's letting on. Such a ham.

  • I can't believe DS is almost 3 months old!  We're taking him to see the Easter Bunny either tonight or tomorrow.  He really seems to be loving daycare, and they love him there, which makes me feel even better about our choice.  He's still not a fan of sleeping in his pack and play at night, we need to move the monitor into his room and try the crib.  He loves his daycare crib and his rocker so it's not a matter of needing to be held.  We're trying a bunch of little things that we notice we do different when he does sleep in there.  He sleeps well at my moms though and we're going there this weekend, I might be doing some catch up sleeping while he hangs out with grandma!
