hip/pelvic pain at only 8 months??

is there anything i can do to help myself out?  it's getting crazy and i worry that my body is going to fall apart before i get to my EDD!  sitting is uncomfortable and going from sitting to standing/putting weight on my legs is torturous.  walking/standing is putting a ton of pressure on my bladder and i'll start to get pelvic pain after a short while.  even laying down - which used to be my only comfy position, now is uncomfy for my hips because i can really only lay on my sides at this point for any remotely extended period of time!  my tailbone (waaaay down like in the middle of my butt, literally my tailbone) is cracking like crazy all the time - way more than it used to - and now baby jumps each time it does, poor thing lol.. i can only imagine what it sounds like in there.

i still have 2 months left!!  isn't it too early for this?  and how much worse is it going to get?!  and is there anything at all i can do to somehow help myself out?  i've been called 'hyper-flexible' by dr's in the past - is this causing me to become more unstable because of the relaxin earlier???  wah!  lol

  • Ugh, no, unfortunately its not too early to get that kind of pain. I had a support that I wore under my belly that I used to wear to run and then towards the end just to walk around some days and it helped relieve some of the pressure, but not all of it. Hang in there!

  • Have you tried the excercise where you get on your hands and knees, and arch your back up, then bend it down?  That helped me a lot! It's in the Bradley materials.
  • I have been having pain since the beginning due to preexisting problems, but it has really intesified and is just like yours right now. I have a belt, go to Physical Therapy and have a bunch of pelvic floor strengthening excercises. I jam a pillow between my legs an night to support my hip but it is a losing battle.

yes!  it's one of the bradley exercises i'm actually good about doing!  lol..  i've found that it can help the pressure of having her jammed up into my ribs and as an added bonus it can help move trapped gas.  :-)

one of the places i'm having pain is actually a place where i had previously had issues that i swore up and down were sacroilliac related but every dr i saw did the SI tests of moving my leg and said i passed them all without question so who knows.  but yeah, it's def come back to haunt me in this last half of pregnancy.  joy of joys.  :-(

  • Unfortunately not to early - count yourself blessed that it started this late - I got it starting around 6 months since baby was so low.

Try to avoid reclining positions at all cost - the more posterior your baby is, the worse it will be.

Here are some things that will help baby flip from posterior and/or help relieve the pressure:
    - Pick up a yoga ball (Job lot has them for like $9.99) and sit on the yoga ball instead of the couch.  It helps your body stretch and get baby in a better position.
    - Get down on your hands and knees - you can either sit this way or actually use the time to clean the floor.
    - Get down in the 'playful puppy' pose - Hands/elbows on the ground, but in the air - like a bowing position almost.

Try sleeping/sitting with your legs propped up too.  If you have a pregnancy pillow, add a pillow to the bottom of it.  This helped me at night for the popping tailbone a lot.

Not sure if you'll end up like me, but mine got worse probably until around 37 weeks - just recently it's gotten a little better, but still flares from time to time.  I actually found if I sat on the floor and did some stretches/yoga that it would be much better the next night.

  • If you have SI issues, then I really recommend an SI belt in addition to the belly support belt. These are the ones I have

And, this is not the exact belt- I got mine from my PT, but same concept. This one is a lifesaver for any walking.

Oh wait, it does have my belt

  • Definitely not too early- it's basically your body getting ready to get the baby out.

Sleeping/laying on your side is the best position if you are laying down.   Do you have a body pillow?  I sleep w/ a body pillow in front of me and a regular pillow behind me.

If you are sitting down I recc'd getting a big yoga ball, or at least sitting backwards in a regular chair (legs WIDE apart straddling almost.)

Basically you want to open up your hips as much as possible at this point and kind of let your belly drop/hang, it's much more comfortable.

  • Yea, I have SI issues from an old injury and that was what bothered me as well. Toward the end, I got shooting stabbing pains down my butt and leg. Put a wrench in my plan to exercise up till the end.

  • With my first pg I was at the chiro 2x a week by 20 wks with SI pain.  With Kate I was there at 16 wks.  So nope, not too early.  Sorry because i know it hurts.

  • You think 8 months is too early?!? I've been dealing with this for the last 3 months! I feel like someone kicked me in the crotch most days.  On the upside, my pain was actually worse a couple of months ago or at least more frequent, so there is hope.  The only thing that I have found to help is yoga poses that stretch that area (squats, pigeon pose, etc) although its a temporary relief.  Also, try sleeping on your back in a reclined position instead of a flat one (i.e. for me, on the couch propped up) as that will take some pressure off (my hips are getting quite sore from being stuck on one side or the other for the majority of the night).
  • not too early, no... just one of the fun parts of the last couple months for some women. i'm just now starting to have problems laying on my side at night becuase my hips start to hurt if i'm on one side too long. i remember it being miserable last time around. and the pelvic pain is becuase baby is heavier and just putting more pressure on and at the same time your joints and ligaments are all loosening up even more in preparation for labor. Have you thought about wearing a pg support belt?
