My BFF has a Santa Fe....she loves it and hasn't had anything major go wrong. I wanna say it's a 2007 and she bought it new.
I know you didn't really 'say' you're open to other suggestions, but I had a CRV for 4 years (prior to outgrowing it) and it was hands-down the best vehicle I've ever owned. DH and I were just reminiscing about it yesterady. lol.
I have a Santa Fe and love it! its a 2007 and we haven't had any problems with it...we looked at the CRV from Honda - we liked that too, but we go camping a lot, so when you put the seats down, they don't go completely flat - which makes it hard to put a lot of stuff in the car...we like the Santa Fe for its ride, and roominess! We also liked the one slightly bigger from the santa fe as well..
I have an '03 santa fe (115K miles) and bought it used in '04. I loved it with no kids and I love it with 1 kid, but with 2 carseats and a stroller, there is just no room. There is not enough room for us to sit in between the 2 carseats to feed DS if needed, which really sucks. But he won't need to be bottle fed much longer and the stroller will go away at some point. However, It still drives great and as far as a vehicle goes, I still love it. I've had to put approx $1500-2000 into it replacing a hydraulic pump and a lower engine mount. both things were past 100K miles when they were replaced.
