2nd Trimester

F**k you PBK and BRU

So I go to order James' bedding that I have had picked out for weeks and it's on backorder until May. K, great. I'm not waiting that long to get started on his room. So I say eff you and go to order the furniture we have picked out from BRU, shipping alone is $400+!!! THe closest BRU is 4 hours away, so it's not feasible for us to go pick it up.

Now I am back at SQUARE EFFING ONE. I am so mad, I'm in tears.

  • I mena 4 hours is a drive, but at the same time make a day of it or somthing.  Call them and purchase over the phone so they have it. Also is there a Toys r us near you? Sometimes you can get the same things there when there is not BRU close.  But I would just take next Sat and drive down with your DH get the furniture maybe shop some of the stores have lunch and drive back. Long day yes, but cheeper then $400 is shipping as well.

Yeah, I am pretty much thinking this is what we are going to have to do. ::shakes fist:: You know, I would be willing to pay $150ish on shipping, but $400 for 3 items is crazy.

I am not the one freaking out about baby furniture and bedding.  You have just about 1/2 a pregnancy left to figure this out.

  • That sucks!  I was outraged at how expensive the shipping was when we ordered our furniture from JCP.  Luckily I was able to ship to store for free...and it was right in town, no 4 hour drive.  One thing to consider if you do go pick it up, the packaging was HUGE!  At least ours was.  The crib wasn't assembled, but the changing tower was.  We used my families company van to get it home otherwise I don't know what we would have done.  Rented a Uhal maybe?

  • I feel your pain.  The bedding we had picked out is on back order EVERYWHERE until sometime in June.  I'm hoping for a miracle but have been shopping around for Plan B.
  • Ugh, sorry, that totally stinks! I would not pay $400 on shipping. Is the furniture specifically BRU or can you order it from another website? You may be able to find it for cheaper shipping from somewhere else.

  • Wow, where do you live that you are so far from a BRU?

If it makes you feel any better, we are having similar trouble with IKEA. The bed we want for DS is backordered at our store. Yet, it's in-stock at every other IKEA in our region and they don't ship-to-store AND we can't order it online. Sigh. Seems like they just don't want our business..

  • Have you checked JCPenney, they own PB. I guess that doesn't help your crib situation though. Is there someone else who carries the make and model of the crib where you could shop shipping costs? $400 is a lot but for 3 pieces of large furniture I can see it being somewhat reasonable.

Just be careful.  Most BRU do not have the furniture in stock in the store.  You have to place the order and they will call you when the furniture arrives to come and pick it up.  Atleast at the BRU by me we had to go in person to order and then go again to pick it up they did not allow phone order.  SO CALL THE STORE FIRST!!!

  • That's insane. I refused to pay that so I found some things I liked on JCP.com and I got free shipping!

That's pretty awesome. I wonder how often they run those promos or was it a code?

Lucky!  I purchased all my furniture from JCP and the free shipping code didn't apply to furniture and to get it shipped to the store I paid $184.  If it was to get shipped directly to my home it wouldve been over $300!

This or just look for something similar elsewhere.  There are a lot of options out there with cheaper shipping if you really don't want to make the drive.

  • Maybe a stupid question, but do you have a toysrus that is closer?  You should be able to have it sent there too...
  • I completely understand. I had a total breakdown in the middle of BRU and was pretty much on the verge of throwing a toddler style temper tantrum, this coming from some one who is generally very chill and laid back. Between BRU and hormones a good freak out is completely exceptable!

I had never seen a BRU furniture piece without free shipping.  Are you special ordering something?

  • If you go to BRU to pick up your furniture, check each piece well before taking it home (even if it means opening the boxes if it comes unassembled).  We had to bring a crib back because a post had a large dent in it, even though it had all the foam packing around it.  It is so aggravating once you get it home to assemble and realize you have a damaged piece.  As a PP mentioned, we had to order our furniture and it took about 2 weeks for them to get it in before we could pick it up.  Some furniture pieces take a really long time to get (we ordered the toddler rails and they took months to get in).

  • I am sorry you are having this issue. Maybe you could drive to the BRU, get a hotel room for the night, have a nice dinner with your SO, pick up the furniture in the morning and head back...you will still come out ahead. I know I could not sit for 4 hours in the car.

And I agree with PPs about making sure the furniture is in stock, and ask how many are in stock...that way if an item is damaged, you have another one to choose from, or mix and match from 2 packages and will not have to go back...again.
