Just wondering...do you have any? Do your husbands? I have none. DH has my name and a Celtic eternity symbol together on his back and also the Chinese symbol for "father" plus our wedding date (the day he became my son's stepfather) and the date we adopted our older son on his left bicep.
Do you like tattoos? Hate 'em? How do you feel about your kids getting them?
Re: tattoos?
I have one. I designed it, and its personal - you wouldn't get it just be looking at it. Its on my outer thigh, and you can only see it in a bathing suit. I am going to get another for my DS when I stop breastfeeding.
DH has (let me count)... 6, all on his arms, and is planning on eventually getting full sleeves.
I like tattoos with meaning (like your H's) but I hate people who just get flowers, or whatever because they were 18 and thought it was cute. My parents are VERY anti-tattoo (lets just say I broke the news I had one about 2 seconds before announcing my pregnancy - we were on a family beach trip, and I'd rather them not be mad, lol), and all growing up talked so badly about them. I'll just tell my kids to pick a design... and wait 2 years before getting it to make sure its still worth it. Thats what I did!
Nope. I am anti-tattoo. DH has one design around one bicep, and it's okay. I don't hate it, but I think I would hate it if he got more.
Tattoos are the human equivalent of a bumper sticker. I don't get why someone would want to do that to themselves or their car.
ROTFL - love it.
We just had this conversation a few posts down. Search KarateKrissy (sp?) post title... BM are you 12 or something like that.
I have 4 and want more. Fi has 3, including my name across his left bicep.
yep, have the one but got it at 18yo...thinking back, was definitely my attempt at rebelliousness. my mother still sighs and shakes her head-found that out when I was putting my wedding dress on a few months ago. still like it, don't know if I'd get another 'cause if I ever let myself go, the one I have now will get ugly.
indifferent about 'em, give the side eye to people who cover themselves however and later get angry when that won't fly in a professional position.
SD will likely definitely get a tattoo, her mom has a few (pretty discreet), I've got the one, and her dad has two. Or maybe, since all of us have them, she'll decide that it isn't simply isn't cool.
I like tattoos but I don't have any myself. I'm scared I might be allergic to the ink. The tattoo place said it's rare, and so does my doctor but I'm allergic to other stuff I shouldn't be allergic to, so I'd rather not find out the hard way, that would suck SO bad.
DH has two, one stupid teenager one and a chinese dragon that covers his upper right arm and part of his shoulder. He wants to get a new tattoo to cover up the stupid one but hasn't decided yet. I think tattoos are hot and however many he wants is fine by me!
I hate them and my child cannot get one as long as I am supporting them. ONce they are on their own, it is their decision.
DH and I both have 5 although you wouldnt be able to tell... They can all be easily hidden or shown if we want. I like them, but honestly feel like I am done getting them. Don't really have another place that I want one.
If my child wanted one, I would want them to be old enough to decide and make it tasteful... But I wouldnt be opposed.
My DH is anti tattoo, but I have one and would love to have another.
My tattoo represents a very specific time in my life. I had just gotten over my clinical depression (thank you accutane), had started my second bachelors degree, pushed myself out of my shy box and into pledging a fraternity, and becoming self-sufficient (well, I took out my own student loans/got a good job/had my own apt).
I wanted to express my self-pride.
I don't have any, DH doesn't have any.
I'm not opposed to tattoo's. I feel that if your getting a tattoo just to get a tattoo, you probably shouldn't be getting one. If it's special, and it means something, than I think it's a great idea. I also think it shouldn't be a do it on a whim type of thing. It's one thing to have some tattoo's from when you were first 18, it's another to be a parent, married, and well into your 20's or 30's and get something totally random just because. I think with tattoo's you have to be responsible in the decisions you make.
If my children want tattoo's, all I will ask of them is to figure out what they want, where they want it, and think about it for 6 months (that is, if they are living in my home still, once they are gone, they are gone, they can make their own decisions). If in 6 months they still are just as fired up about it, then I don't see a problem with it. I won't be elated if they decide to do so, but in the long run, it is their body, their decision on what to do with it.

I think some people's tatoos are awesome and some look trashy. That being said the only time I would ever object would be someone tatooing their face.
I have a tatoo but it's very well hidden and I did it just for me.
