I find this so wierd and tacky

I was reading the local newspaper this morning, and there was a little ad for an open house bridal shower.  Really?!?  You just put a mass invite in the newspaper assuming everyone wants to come and shower you with gifts?  I don't know if this is normal where others are from, but I just found it really really wierd.

    I find it weird too, but where we moved about a year ago, they advertise wedding and baby showers on the town bank's marquee and on fliers in the gas stations, grocery store, etc.  No one seems to think it's too weird here, but I do.  It is a very small town though.

    ok, I guess the small town thing at least makes more sense....but it's still stupid and tacky, IMO.  And yes, WEIRD!
