Is it really that important to get stride rite or other "good" shoes for your LO?

Do you think it is really a big deal to get stride rite, riley roos, etc? Or do you think cheaper shoes are made generally equal to those now? Not necessarily wal mart cheap but some Target look comparable to the soft soled shoes..

    My theory is, I would rather spend money on one pair that will last a while then on cheap pairs which I would need to replace more often

    Good shoes are a must for my DD.  It drives DH crazy but I have no problems spending $ on good shoes, but will give him the side eye when he buys her "expensive" clothes.  That said, I shop sales and have gotten great deals (~$20 range) for stride rites.  I also just scored a pair of umi sandals for $16.

    It was really important to me when she was just starting to walk.  I wanted to make sure I got her off on the right foot;)

    But now that she is steady and confident I don't stress it as much.  I have bought all of her recent shoes from Target, the military exchange or Old Navy.  She's in a size 6 now.

    Dh and I both have feet issues so we only put DS in stride right.

    https://www.toddlerstoday.com/articles/your-toddlers/toddler-steps-3131/ Here is an awesome article my pediatrist SIL had me read. Cheap shoes are fine, so long as they fit properly. All children should get their shoes fitted at least twice a year, at a specialty shoe store or stride rite.

    She had more expensive shoes when she first started walking.  Now, she mostly wears Walmart shoes like Garanimals.  Their cute and last a long time while being under $15.

    I usually buy one good pair (Stride Rite/See Kai Run) per season and then supplement with cheaper shoes for dress up/boots/etc.  My dd has super wide chubby feet so we have to buy her shoes in "wide" widths.

    Yes it's important.  DD wears nothing but Stride Rite.  I buy her one or two pairs every time she grows out of them, and that's all she wears.  I don't ever spend a lot on clothes, but shoes are important...they're sort of the foundation...clothes are just decoration.

    I think it's worth it. I usually go to the outlets or look for annual sales at Nordstrom for the striderite shoes and just buy sizes ahead when I find a good deal.

    My DS's feet are really wide and I have trouble finding cheap shoes that fit. I do usually buy Stride Rite (we have an outlet here) or good sneakers like Saucony or Nikes if I can find them on sale. He is such an active kid and I dont want him to be uncomfortable.

    No, it's not important. Our pediatrician told us that as long as the shoes fit properly, they're fine. Honestly, your child will probably outgrow cheaper shoes before they have a chance to wear out. I absolutely refuse to spend $50 on a pair of Stride Rites that he'll only wear for 3 months tops.

    IMO, no its not. My DS goes barefoot at home 90% of the time, so I refuse to spend more than $10 on a pair of shoes that he will grow out of in a month or two. His three pairs in rotation right now came from the Walmart clearance rack for $5 and $3 and the Kmart clearance rack for $5. I assure you, even though they are cheap, he still looks super cute. Cool
