Alternative to lotion, anyone use oil as body moisturizer?

I saw a suggestion on here a year ago to use Jojoba oil as a facial moisturizer and love it.  I want to do something similar for my body because drugstore lotion just doesn't cut it and I can't afford something organic/pricey.  Does anyone use straight up oil as a body moisturizer?  I have done Jojoba and liked it, but it is pricey as well.

  • I use extra virgin organic olive oil form Costco for super dry skin days. Relatively inexpensive, especially given how long it lasts, and works wonders!

  • Okay, yay!  I was hoping for a response along those lines.  I use an olive oil/organic sugar scrub once a week and LOVE how my skin feels afterwards but I wasn't sure if I should be slathering myself up with it daily.

    Oh and, CONGRATS!

  • Why thank you!

I learned pretty quickly that there's the right amount, and then there's the "oh holy crap, I smell like I should be cooking garlic on my skin" way too much amount. And until you get it figured out, standing on a towel is a really good idea so you don't slime your bathtub/shower or your floors :)

  • I use a mixture of almond oil, olive oil (not extra virgin), and vitamin E oil.  I keep it in a little bottle in my shower and after I apply conditioner to my hair, I rub the oil on my legs and body.  Then I rinse off my hair and dry off.  It works fabulous.
  • I use baby oil sometimes, but it's very greasy.
  • I love coconut oil - smells better than olive oil to me (but I still use olive oil in my body scrubs and such).

My mom uses this but had no complaints about the grease factor. This might be because she slathers herself up before bed. Also, she has incredibly dry skin. To the point that she can cover her face in vaseline before bed and it's completely dry and itchy in the morning.
