I belong to MOPS and I don't think they are "religiously affiliated". While my MOPS group physically meets at my church (non-denominational Christian) most of the moms don't go to my church or to any church at all for that matter and I honestly don't remember God being brought up even once- except maybe during a devotional or something as an opening to the session. Maybe try one out and see how you like it? I love mine. Hope this helps. )
MOPS is definitely a Christian organization. How much religion is invoked in your local meeting is up to the people running it. The one I go to isn't too overbearing, although some of the speakers we have had are of a quasi-religious nature.
I am a part of MOPS as well. It is a Christian organization. However, it is structured so that any mom will feel comfortable - at least that's how it's supposed to be. The purpose of it is not to be a Bible study or to make you feel out of place if you don't belong to a church. The purpose is to support you as a mom and give you a chance to meet other women going through similar experiences. I think it's a great thing and I would highly recommend it!
I feel lucky ;-) Hubby and I ARE NOT RELIGIOUS! I belong to a MeetUp.com group in my town (actually I'm an assistant organizer now) and we are not affiliated with a religious group. I've heard of MOPS, they are a Christian organization.
The MOPS nearest to me had too much emphasis on Christianity for my comfort level. I recently joined a meetup.com moms group that I am going to for the first time next week. I would say try it out and see if you are a fit to the MOPS nearest you
I agree with PPs - it depends on the leaders of the one you go to. My MOPS is pretty Christian-centered (although there are non-Christians who go). Regardless, I would say try it: you get child care for 2 hours, breakfast, speaker, craft, and girl time. Besides, there are probably several MOPS groups near you, so you could "shop around" to see which fits you best. I personally love it.

Same here. I attend MOPS and I am by no means super religious. The leader of the group os my BF though, lol. She is very religious but she understand that many of the mom's who attend don't do "deep" religious convo's. Our speakers vary - some are often from the church but we also bring in outside speakers - a dietitian, a master gardener, we once did a scrapbooking meeting. It really varies and I really enjoy my group.

That's what mine is like too. We had some great speakers.
You should be able to try a meeting or two before joining. I love my MOPS group, but it is definitely religious. There are some non-church goers who attend, but we pray at the beginning and end of each meeting, and we've discussed religious topics at several meetings. I wouldn't say it's "hit you over the head religious," but it is an organization for Christian mothers, so you should know that going in. Good luck!
I'm a member! We do alot of fun things and I personally thoroughly enjoy it. The underlying foundation of the group is Christian based. I think anyone who participates would feel comfortable there.
