Is anyone not BFing and on the mini-pill?

how do you like it?

any big difference from combo pills?

Re: Is anyone not BFing and on the mini-pill?

  • Not sure if you know this, but that pill is not as effective as the regular pill, so you really should switch over to one that's more effective.  I believe I read that with typical (can't remember for sure if it was typical use or recommended use) use, it has only an 87% chance of working.

  • I had a friend who took it w/o BF she now has a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old. It didnt work for her.

  • Used it for a few months, but honestly never trusted it...

ETA - Oh, and I was EBF.  i would NEVER trust it BFing OR not BFing... not worth the risk unless you might want a kid...

  • Yeah, I haven't changed yet. I am still on the mini pill but I know it isn't as effective. I am looking forward to going back to a low dose combination pill. Having that balance of estrogen with the progesterone is more, shall we say, comfortable.
  • I took 4 months to get off that pill after I quit bf. When i talked to my doc about new pills she giggled and said "lets take a pregnancy test" lol

  • I WAS on the mini pill and not BFing and then I got knocked up, lol. I will never trust that combo again:)

I would like to add that when I finally went to the doctor to get back on the regular pill I was about 5 weeks along. I took a pregnancy test 3 weeks later.

  • I don't post here often, but I'm waiting for DH to finish putting DS to sleep...

I took the minipill for 6 yrs b/f getting pregnant w/ DS.  Didn't get pregnant till the month I came off it.  I've been back on it since he was a few wks old, no pregnancy scares.  I have a congenital heart defect that increases my stroke risk, and estrogen increases blood clotting, so for me it was never worth the risk of the combo pill.  I'm a big fan of the mini-pill.

  • Was breastfeeding our then 13 month old and on the mini-pill . .. when I conceived baby #2.  I definitely don't trust it!
  • I didn't trust MYSELF with the mini-pill.  It's more important to take it every day at the same time.  You can screw up a little with the regular pill but I hear that the mini pill is more likely to fail if you don't take it exactly right.  Knowing myself, that was not gonna happen LOL.

Anyway now I have Implanon.  It's the same hormones as the mini-pill or Mirena (progesterone only) and it's over 99% effective.  I don't know if it's low dose hormones like you want but I really like it.  I don't know if your insurance will cover it and it's probably pretty expensive.  You also have to get it removed at the doctor's so you can't just say "hey let's TTC" and stop taking it that day like you can with the pill.

  • Its not as effective but I'm still on it. I have horrible cycles..nausea, upset stomach, cramps that pain meds wouldnt touch and bad headaches. I quit bf when jh was 6 months and tried yaz for a few months but it didnt help. At my annual, my ob wrote me a rx for the mini pill again and its been love ever since! =) My best friend has had the same problems as me and doesnt have a LO..its been faithful to her for 2+ years!
