Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Allergy question?

DD may have had an allergic reaction to peanuts today.  I spread some on her pancakes and about 2 hours later she started throwing up.  Called the pedi who said it could be an allergic reaction.  She never had any other signs (shortness of breath, wheezing, hives).  So the pedi wants to talk about allergy testing at her 15 month appointment, and in the meantime avoid all nuts.

So what is allergy testing like for a toddler?  There are no known food allergies on either side of the family, but DH is not in contact with his birth father, so that is an unknown.

Re: Allergy question?

  • DS had an allergic reaction to milk.  He had blood drawn to test for allergies...it was not fun:(  GL!

  • When our son was tested around 4-5 months old and then 1 year old it was a simply blood test.

  • FWIW, no one has an egg allergy in our immediate family or extended as well but somehow our youngest has an egg allergy.

  • Oh good.  I have vague memories of my sister having some kind of allergy test involving multiple pricks on her back and I was so hoping that's not what we were going to have to do.

  • DS is allergic to dairy, wheat/gluten, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts--and he was allergic to soy too but now is not.  We found out about the vast majority of them through the RAST testing ---blood test.  It's not fun to go through b/c they kind of have to pin them down to get enough--but once it's over it's fine.

     Definitely worth it!!!
