Can you use first morning urine for opk's?

I always have but a girl at work today said you shouldn't but didn't know why.  Said she was told by her old midwife that it wasn't the best time a day to use them....hope i haven't been doing this wrong. I thought first morning would be the best? thanks

Re: Can you use first morning urine for opk's?

  • My RE's office always told me to use the 2nd urine of the day, not the first. Why exactly, I don't remember. I'm pretty sure they told me, but I can't remember now.

  • A lot of sites/ books say that the best time to test is the middle of the day.  They say that the lh builds up throughout the morning.  They say that you should limit liquids and go 4 hours between peeing.

I test more than once a day.  I have gotten a + with FMU, but there are times when I would have missed it if I only used FMU.

     Good luck!

  • The only positive I have EVER gotten was with first morning urine.  I had been doing the tests mid-day and never got a positive.  But my dr confirmed I did ovulate.  So I decided this month to use first morning and I got a positive.
