Success after IF

Umm yea, so 7 follies and a tampon

I just went for my SHG today and before they did an u/s.  I apparently have 7 follicles growing despite being on birth control.  I do have a polyp measuring 8.7X3.4.  In your experience, will your RE still continue on with IVF with a polyp that size?  They said they couldn't reach it when they tried today.

aaaaand for the kicker...I had a tampon stuck up in there.  She said that she was very glad to see I wasn't sick.  So lets hope my pain dissipates now that they know something was actually WRONG with me.  Despite them saying that they see it all the time, I was very embarrassed.

  • OMG...how long was the tampon in there?

I'm not sure about the polyp (is that the same thing as a cyst?) If so, my RE would cancel me because the stimming just makes that puppy grow!

I'm sorry....but I am laughing out loud. How long has the tampon been in?? You just forgot about it???

I'm sorry I can't help you with your follie issue.....I don't know much about that. But.....I have PCOS and I pretty much have small follies at all times since I have lots. My understanding that as long as they are on the smaller side, it doesn't really matter.

    GL!

  • glad that your follies are growing away, bummer about the polyp!!  I don't have any experience with it!  sorry!!  And I once forgot about a tampon...glad that it didn't cause any toxic issues!!!

Doh!  I just went back and reread and saw that you are on BCP...I'm IVF clueless, but that's not normal to have follies growing now, huh?  Sorry!!!!

  • Oh my gosh! I'm glad you're okay! I don't know about IVF, I guess it would vary from doctor to doctor, but my RE removed my polyps before going onto another IUI cycle because he said it could affect things.

The tampon had probably been in for about a week or so.  It's actually very scary, they say they see it all the time.  I'm being treated with  double antibiotics for it.  I've been in MASSIVE pain all week (went to the ER because of it), so I'm glad its out.

  • Ouch!

I had polyps, and my doc would not proceed with IVF without getting them out.

I had an in patient hysteroscopy to remove them all, then started the IVF process immediatly to beat their regrowth.

  • I am glad they found it! I had a girlfriend in college who ended up in ICU with a systemic infection from one she forgot about. It was there for a little over two weeks.

I have always been ahem... shorter in that area, and have never been successful with tampons, so it is unfathomable to me that one would not feel it, but I have heard that if they are in correctly you can not feel them.

Now with my prolapse, a tampon will probably never be an option.

  • Oh wow, I am glad they figured it out and hopefully you will start feeling better soon!

I did have to get a polyp removed via in office hysterectomy before we could proceed with any further treatments.

  • I can't help you as far as the follies, but I wouldn't worry about the cyst right now.  I'm glad you got that tampon out -- I'm so sorry!!!

  • CMM... you be nice. It's not that funny. It's actually pretty scary. I've forgotten I was wearing one.... end of cycle...string strays... I can see it happening.  This just makes me all the more mad they didn't do an u/s last week at the ER, they would have caught that!

I believe it's FIBROIDS that grow with the increased hormones, but to my knowledge, all the polyps do is perhaps hinder implantation.

C - the hysterscopy is what I'm having done next week, and both these fine ladies, my docs, and Dr. Google say that it's actually preferred to be done 4-6 weeks prior to IVF (Dr. P says no prob, too, I just asked him) and you may not need the full D&C that I'm having, just the lil' snip.  They code it as "endometrial polyps" so IF is not even in the picture.

  • Don't feel bad. I forgot about a tampon too once and I think it was during IUI#2 where they were like, what is this? And it was a tampon. I was so embarrassed that I cried - but it does happen! You're not alone.
  • Oh my gosh, a TAMPON?  That's awful!!  I'm so glad you went in when you did and they found it!  I've never been a fan of tampons, and I think if I were I'd worry about this kind of thing all the time...I guess it's pretty easy to forget 'em!  Hope you feel better soon!

  • ohmygoodness!

ick about the tampon but hopefully getting that out will hope you feel better.

    boo on the follies.

    and BOO on the polyp!!!!!!

  • Oh my goodness, you poor thing :( I am so glad that you are okay!
It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

  • Glad they found out what was wrong. Yeah you may need a hysterscopy. I had polyps and once they cleaned it up...no problems right before ivf too

I work in an ob/gyn clinic and we do see it often. Longest one that I saw in was 2 MONTHS!! Only reason she came in was because she had a bad odor coming from down there and she wanted to get it checked out. Glad you got it out and hopefully you'll start feeling better soon.

  • Oh no! I'm sorry you've been in so much pain, but I'm glad they finally found out why. I'm sure it is common for people to forget about it, so don't feel bad. I have accidentally put another tampon in without taking one out before. Embarrassed These things happen!

  • OMG, I'm so glad they found that and got it out!  I always used to wonder how that happens.  Then a few months ago I discovered a forgotten one of my own.  I was so embarrassed and horrified and no one else even knew.  I can imagine how you felt.  I think kids steal your brain.  Anyway, I'm so glad they found it before you got a horrible infection.

As for the polyp, I don't have any experience there.  Is that anything like a cyst?

A polyp is more like a skin tag.  Some RE's will just go ahead and do IVF, but most want polyps out.

  • Wow, all I have to say is that that ER you went to last week is lucky that today's ultrasound found the tampon. They sent you home refusing to do an u/s, right? You could have sued the pants off them if it had caused serious problems.

Hope you are feeling better soon!
