High-Risk Pregnancy

If you have or had a cerclage: I have a question

I had a cerclage with ds and again with this baby. With ds, they attempted to remove it at 37 weeks (although, she couldn't get it all) and I had to be induced on my due date (for reason of not dialated anymore than a 3).

This time I really don't want her to remove it until at least 38 weeks, just in case I go into labor early.

When did they remove your cerclage?

Re: If you have or had a cerclage: I have a question

  • I have one and this is my first pregnancy. My OB and peri both want to remove it between 36 1/2 and 37 weeks.

Why do you want to wait? I always thought the concern was the if you go into labor with the cerclage that it could tear the cervix and I don't want to risk that. My dates are spot on so I have no concern about going into labor once I hit that point. Also, based on research I have been told that most women go into labor between 8-14 days post removal. My OB has only ever had one patient go into labor the day hers was removed.

  • I went into labor with my cerclage and didn't have any tearing.  My water broke at 35 weeks, 2 weeks exactly before I was supposed to have my cerclage removed.  My doctor prefers to remove them around 37 weeks.
