I had the round of steroid shots while in the hospital 6 weeks ago for PTL. My amnio is scheduled for two weeks from yesterday at my 36 week mark - does anyone know where I can find the stats that show the effectiveness of the steroids on babies born at 36 weeks. I am DYING to be unpregnant and if the amnio results come back I don't think I can fathom another week. They will induce at 37 weeks regardless due to my having cholestasis.
TIA
Re: effectiveness of steroid shots?
I would be interested to know as well. I've had 2 rounds of steroid shots and as along as all goes well will induce at 34 weeks and they are pretty confident by then and with 2 rounds of shots, her lungs should be pretty well good to go.
I know I've talked to folks on the premie boards and it seems as though there is a big difference in the ones born with shots and those who didn't have them, but I haven't seen any specific stats.
i can't link you to the many medical journal articles i have read that say that the steroid shots greatly decrease breathing and other issues in preemies because they are all password accounts through my work. but i have read many.
I had three steroid shots when I went into labor at 23 weeks. Baby was born at 24 weeks. Of course he had to be on oxygen for 6 months, but he survived and is doing well now. I would have the steroid shots again in a heartbeat.
I'm there with you about not being pregnant anymore. I keep telling my husband I'm going to start doing jumping jacks at 37 weeks.
