Ok so my best friend is a L&D nurse at the hospital we're going to deliver at. We went to dinner last night and she was asking me if I wanted her to be my nurse. I had thought about having her in the room. But I am just not sure.
I was kind of worried that if she did something that upset me or hurt that I would yell at her haha. But if it was just some other nurse I'd just keep it to myself. I just don't know. I was also thinking how great it would be to have her in there. I mean how often do you really get to have your best friend help deliver your baby.
What would you do? Do you think it would be too awkward?
Re: Best Friend as L&D nurse???
my first inclination would be to say "no" but...then thinking of it - I have a friend that is a Doula and I'd LOVE to have her in the room. I think it really depends on her personality - is she someone who you think will be calming and nurturing?
Definitely go with your gut on this one...and make her sign a contract or somethign that if you scream profanities her way or poop on the table, she can't hold it against you
My aunt is a nurse (not a L&D nurse) but a nurse that works in the same hospital that I delivered in. She was with me the entire day and I was very happy! I was only allowed to have one person in the room during my epidural and if it was my DH he was going to have to sit in a chair in the corner. I let my aunt stay and since she is a nurse and they knew she would not pass out at the site of things, she was able to stand in front of me and I could lay my head on her during it. SO much better!!!
I say go for it!
after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!
IT'S A GIRL!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
Ahhh I wish my BF was my L&D nurse- the 1st shift nurse I had complained about how bad her life was as a newly divorced mom...and how bad guys are in general. {oh yeah PS I was about to bring a son into the world and am a single mom myself- silly lady!}
Thankfully the 2nd shift nurse was AWESOME and DS waited to enter the world until we had better surroundings-hehe!
She's your BF...you'll know what to do and what's best

As long as your BF is someone who can support you without stressing you out, then absolutely.
My L & D nurse was a girl I knew remotely in college... a sorority sister of my bestfriend. She had just given birth to her own daughter three months before and that day was her first day back at work.
I credit a lot of how great my labor went to her. It was so nice to have a nurse there who was my age, someone I knew (even if I didn't know her well) and someone who had recently been in the same situation. She was so supportive and let me hold her hand during the epidural and everything.
