Babies: 3 - 6 Months

OMG I hate CIO

We didn't have to do this with Jacob, but Sarah's totally different. Two nights ago I took her upstairs at 6:30 and gave her a bottle, and she fell asleep until 8. Then she woke up, took the rest of it, and slept until 5:30AM. Last night, I took her up at 7:30 (b/c she had a late nap until 4:45), gave her a bottle and put her down at 7:50. She cried for an hour (overtired??). I kept going in to check on her and the poor little thing was trying to self soothe but having a hard time. I had her in a sleep sack, and I think she was getting pissed, b/c she kept grabbing it like she wanted to pull it up over her face. I took it off, and she fell asleep shortly after. Then she was back up at 1:40. Didn't go back to sleep for 2 hours. I made her a bottle, which she took some of, and fell back to sleep. She was crying, so dh went in to give her the rest. She took it, then spit up everywhere. We had to change her, so that woke her up even more. After that I kissed her, said night-night and put her down. She cried for another half hour at least. DH and I were just laying there, like this sucks! I feel liek my heart is going to leap out of my chest, and he's got a headache. I'm hoping this self  soothing will get better. Seems like we have a good night, then a bad night. I'm hoping for a good night tonight.

  • Just because she is 4 months old does not mean she is ready to sleep train. Just because it was right for you son does not mean it is right for her.  Give her another few weeks and try again.  If you feel sick, just think how she feels.

  • I don't think this would have gone well for us at 4 months either.

Sounds like you're going in a lot and feeding her.  Maybe she's confused.... sometimes when she cries, she gets a bottle.  Sometimes she doesn't.

We didn't sleep train until our doc told us we could eliminate the night feeding.  I think it helps keep it simple, and he's not confused.

It is hard.  I can't stomach it.  I actually have been reading Ferber's book just to see what he recommends.  It's better than the extinction method IMO cause you go in to reassure LO.  If I have to do sleep training though, I think I would do Sleep Lady cause you are soothing baby with your voice, touch but not rocking to sleep.  I can't even do that right now though.  I'm trying to get DS used to a lovey and his paci before I do the drowsy but awake method.

  • this post makes me sick to my stomach too.

there are so many things wrong with this post.

  • So you took off her sleep sack and she fell asleep a little while later.  Um, maybe she was hot and was trying to tell you that for an hour?
