do you have a carpet runner for the stairs? We don't but I am wondering if at some point we should, really for DS. Would the carpet make it easier/less slippery for him down the road?

oddly enough, our stairs are the only carpeted place in our entire house. I think it does make it easier for DD climbing the stairs, but I'm sure she would get used to regular hardwood also. I would just play it by ear.
I live in a ranch, so no stairs for DS, but my sister doesn't have a rug on her stairs and DD does just fine......just beware of socks.....don't add to the slipperyness (LOL)
No, we don't and I would NOT want one. I think it's more important to teach her to be careful on the stairs... the runner would get so dirty!!! (I'm a neat freak

when DS was your LO's age, I was worried about it too. We don't have carpet on the stairs. Now that DS is older and more sure on his feet, he does fine on the stairs. We also live in a split level house meaning we only have 6 steps going up the bedrooms so you may feel differently with more steps.

Our stairs are carpeted right now (the only place in the entire house--weird), but DH and my dad are ripping it out and replacing it with hardwoods when my dad comes to visit after the baby's born. We're not planning on putting in a runner--I hate how dirty carpet gets, especially with 2 cats and their nasty fur.

Our stairs are hardwood, no runner. We are just being really careful with dd learning. We had new hardwood stairs installed when we moved in 3 years ago. I really love them and didn't want to put carpet on them. It does take being extra careful though.

Re: If you have hardwood floors in your house....
our stairs and upstairs hallway are theonly place carpeted... and we pulled up the rest of the carpet when we moved in.
i think it will make for easier learning... but I worry that once he's accustomed, and we remove the carpet, will it be like learning all over again?
