3rd Trimester

Will you put something together for the hospital staff?

Hi there!  This would be a spin-off of the question about what to get or whether to get Hubby a gift when baby is born.

I think I'll try to put a gift basket together of goodies for the hospital staff.  That should win me some brownie points and keep them smiling!  I'll probably do some snack packs, like 100 calorie and non-100 calorie as well as some microwave popcorn and a thank you card.  Possibly some drink mixes (the ones you add to water bottles) and if my mom can get there in time, some of her yummy homemade goodies.

Anyone else doing something like that?  If so, do you have some more suggestions, or ideas?

  • I never even thought of it with my first and then I read someone on here saying they were going to bring in some cookies.  I may do this to not only keep them happy but also have some on hand in case I need to bribe the anesthesiologist in case my platelets get too much lower!  I need an epidural...lol!
  • That is a nice idea but no I will not be doing that. While I appreciate the job they do and they might deserve a little someting extra, especially if I have a good nurse, I would rather just thank them by being a pleasant patient...if that's even possible with the pain I will be in...oh well, I'll do my best!

  • Didn't think of it but maybe I will have one of my employees put together a TY flower arrangement.
  • I brought a basket of homemade cookies and a thank you card when LO was a few weeks old.

  • Good idea!  I've heard that nurses can only accept gifts that can be shared or put at the nurses station, so those are all good ideas.

I was thinking that I'd bake some cookies when I start going into labor & before I go to the hospital to keep my mind off being in labor.  (I live less than 10 min from the hospital).

  • I have little bags filled with candy and chocolate. I intend to go natural and they are going to need some chocolate when they are done dealing with me. LOL
  • i am doing a edible arrangement

  • My H works in a Hospital and says the 'currency' of a Hospital is free food.  When my Dad was sick he had us bring stuff in for his Nurses, they were so much nicer after that (I think they're just not thanked for their hard work often enough).

H works in the Hospital where I'll deliver so we'll probably bring something, yes.
  • When I was in the hospital with DS, MIL made me a chocolate cake and an apple cinnamon cake.  We shared with the nursing staff there and they LOVED it.
  • If I get extra good care I may. But I figure the tens of thousands of dollars I'm paying the hospital is "thank you" enough for decent care lol. Most nurses appreciate a pleasent non demanding patient which I always am :)

  • We plan on ordering the hospital staff and edible arrangement.

  • I definitely want to bring something. I have a few friends who are nurses and the things they deal with, including the long shifts and the lack of respect, are things I'd never dream of having to endure, and I think it would be sweet to bring them goodies.

I think that since they have access to a bunch of candy and stuff in the vending machines and cafeteria I might like to bake some cookies or something. But then I'll have cookies in the house again... I did not fare so well, self-control wise, when I went on my Christmas Cookie Baking Blowout over the holidays.

  • Just an FYI: When my clients bring me food gifts, I thank them and then promptly throw it all away in a trash can in a staff only area. I don't know where that food has been, where it was prepared, etc. I will, however, keep food that comes in packages.

  • I like the idea of doing this - but I'm not sure I would have the time to organise it before. Maybe I will take in some cookies or a small gift after.
  • No, I will not be doing that.  In China, it would be really weird.  The nursing staff will all be Chinese and if I gave them a gift, they would be feel obligated (cultural reasons) to give me a gift back, which puts them in an awkward position since they probably don't make that much money.

A nice thank you from me will be it!
