3rd Trimester

Ok this is freaking hilarious. Yes, stolen from 2nd tri. ;)

After my very serious post (and all the awesome input) I was harmlessly shopping around the 2nd tri board and found a dispute about government assistance for buying candy, etc, and using food stamps on items. I have some bold opinions about this in general, but its VERY entertaining for those of you who are bored at work and looking for some heat.

  • Note: I meant to say, using food stamps for items that aren't considered "needs". I love it when hormonal women get together and enjoy a good snarkfest!

  • I have accomplished nothing in the last hour because of this thread!

  • I gave up after the first 2 pages...but I may go back and continue reading. Except I am majorly cleaning today...and if I go back to reading I won't get my laundry done. What to do???

  • We had a discussion on this when I was in Psych 101...ahhh, the memories!

In my school the students with free and reduced lunch get the crap we serve in the lunch line - the same crap that caused me to gain almost 10 lbs when I first started teaching - and they sell chips (albeit baked lays), cookies, gatorade and some other goodies on the side.

It really is sad that it's SO much cheaper to be unhealthy -- my food bill almost tripled when I started making sure I eat FRESH veggies and fruit every day...I still do my cheapy Lean Cuisine for lunch (but, that's more of a time-saver thing)

    This.

  • Yes I'm seriously about to get fired so I have to go back to work, but it is definitely worth reading if you have time!

p.s. Don't you love it how it went from "I wish the grocery store would advertise healthier food for the poor" to "I'm using my welfare check to pay for my Escalade"?

Its too good to pass up!

This. My lunch since getting pregnant has gotten more expensive too, because I go to the grocery store and buy healthy things. Very sad that the healthier you want to eat, the more money you've got to spend!

  • if Easter were not right around the corner I would probably see the point.  Absolutely, EBT should be used for more nutritious foods...but maybe they are pointing it out for those who celebrate Easter and the coming of the "Easter Bunny"  feeling like less advantaged kids will have an option to have the bunny come who wouldnt ordinarily because of their circumstances...you know...give them a little something to look forward to in a life more often than not filled with not a whole lot of that...

    Possible? That was my take.

  • Wow, so the only thing I got from this post was a major craving for Easter candy. Jelly beans here I come!

I'm so with you its not even funny. But it still makes me hungry!

I actually agreed with everything you had to say. The problem that everyone else had with you was that your opinions were valid, educated and spelled correctly. Nothing pi$$es off the masses like a well formed argument that is coming from a rational person. I have notice that a lot of people on here don't know how to respond well to an educated opinion other then to throw out insults that they think are witty and original. All it serves to do is make them look bitter and unoriginal.

None the less it was highly entertaining to read!

  • It is sad that it's so much cheaper to buy junk food. Have any of you watched Food, INC. ? It's a great documentary on the food industry in the US, and explains that part of the reason junk food is so much cheaper is because the government subsidizes manufacturers of high fructose corn syrup, beef (think: fast food), and corn. Really fascinating!

That was one of the greatest compliments I've ever received!  Thanks for making my day!
