Newbie...and sickness question

Hi all, I've been lurking since I found out I'm pregnant 2 weeks ago! Had an appt with a Nurse OB the other day for bloodwork, etc and don't have my first "real" prenatal until 2 more weeks. The funny thing is they asked me Tues. if I'd been feeling sick yet and I said "nope" b/c so far I've been feeling just fine...then BAM just like that I wake up queasy yesterday and it's pretty much been constant these last 2 days. No puking yet luckily--but just the nausea is awful. Luckily I work from home so I can deal with this, I think.

So...I realized today that if I eat something every hour I seem to feel better, but has anyone else had that problem? Do I really have to deal w/6 more weeks of this???? (that freaks me out!!!) It seems kind of excessive to be constantly eating but I'm trying to keep it light like yogurt, toast, applesauce, etc. Wonder if the DH will have to start making his own dinners... I can't really stomach the thought of a full meal at the moment. Going for a walk later so I hope the fresh air will help too... any tips would be appreciated!

He's growing up, but he'll always be my baby!

Re: Newbie...and sickness question

  • I had to constantly eat in order not to constantly puke as well.

Welcome to pregnancy. And yes, mine lasted until about 13-15 weeks before I felt human again. But you'll get through it.

  • I am going through the same thing.  I have had non stop nausea for since I was about 5 weeks.  It is horrible.  It got so bad that the doctor prescribed Zofran for me.  Even with the Zofran I still need to constantly have some sort of food in my stomach though or the nausea is unbearable.

I am sorry you are going through this.  One thing my doctor did suggest was to take B6 and a half of unisom at night and then eat two or three saltines in the morning before I get out of bed.

  • With my first it lasted until the day before I delivered. Now, I am  trying to eat often, but sometimes it just doesn't work. I have definitely puked enough to last a lifetime.

  • I'm eating about every 1.5-2 hours.  Something small, like you said.  I've been making dinners for DH and myself but only eating a small portion and then eating a little more later.  It's been working out fine.  If I eat too much, I'm nauseous, if I get an empty stomach, I'm nauseous.  My nurse said it's normal and to eat a little every couple of hours.
  • I started getting m/s around week 7.I'm at week 13 today and it is somewhat starting to subside-now I'm sick about half of the days of the week instead of every day.I do have the same problem though-If I eat too much I'm sick,If I'm empty I'm sick.I eat probably every 1.5 to 2 hours.Usually I can deal with a normal size lunch but every other meal is really small. That seems to help.

  • I went thru that my entire pregnancy. And I felt like I was constantly eating/snacking to feel better but that is your body telling you that you need to eat something. And big meals always made me feel sick so I ate small meals throughout the day. You are eating for 2 now you realize?

  • I had no m/s until about 5 days ago then it hit me like a brick wall.  I was feeling sick all day, nothing I ate tasted good, I wanted nothing.  The only thing that didn't make me feel like hurling after eating it was a pbj sandwich. And I did make DH make his own dinners, no way was I going to try that!

From what I've read on here symptoms come and go throughout the pregnancy.

  • OK...I do feel better hearing all your responses...just thought it was weird that eating actually made me feel better since I would have thought the opposite. Guess I'll just have to get used to it!

The cool thing about my appt the other day is that they gave me a free copy of WTEWYE (yay, free stuff!) so I've been reading that and it says that at about 6 weeks (where I think I am) I'm basically eating for myself and an orange seed, but there's placenta construction going on too. So I guess things are busy-busy down there.  This is my first, and wasn't totally expected, so I'm getting used to a lot of new things right now! Can't wait to be on these boards some more....
