Why do people answer posts when they have nothing to offer?

I am not being snarky, I am genuinely wondering why people answer other people's posts just to say something like, "That didn't happen to me so I guess I have nothing to offer."

Seems like a waste of time to say that...

  • maybe to wish you good luck?

  • Maybe to show some support?  i.e., "I don't know what you are going through, but wish you GL."???
  • Becuase they want to post for funsies?  I dunno.
  • Cause a lot of times they ask....has this ever happened to you?.....and your replying by saying nope, but best of luck to yah.  I dunno.
  • Well, this hasn't happened to me, so I don't have any suggestions. LOL!

For real though, I agree this is pointless. Maybe to get their number of posts up?

    This is my vote, too.

I was actually going to edit my post to say that I can see if it was to wish GL (like your's was) :)

    But other than that?

  • I don't do it often, but if I do, it's usually because the thread has a high number of views but no replies.

If you're talking about the person that replied "I got my BFP at 10dpo so I can't really help" it is to let people like you (who always freak out about still not getting a BFP - I've seen you post this same freak out here for the past few months) realize that at someone you need to come to terms with the fact that you probably aren't going to get a BFP that month and move on.

At 14dpo you should have a very accurate HPT reading.

I can understand that - I should have put that in my post... but otherwise?

then I guess just to boost the post count.... I mean you make a post, people reply. See example (this post.) : )

  • I'm thinking it's all about the post counts too.

This. She did wish you luck.  Why create a whole post to call her out on it?

I created a separate post so that I would not call her out on it (didn't want people to think I was talking about her because I wasn't specifically- I thought what she wrote was nice because she wished me luck. I just neglected to put that as an understandable reason.

It actually hardly ever happens to me, I see it frequently on others posts. That's what made me wonder...

  • Some people think that just because they open a thread it means that they have to post a reply.

Personally, I also think it's weird to write a response where you are not offereing anything other then "nope, don't know".

  • I am commenting on this post to tell you how absolutely adorbale your little girl is.  Those curls are to die for.

  • I hate when people say things that probably make the OP feel worse...like, OP asks, 'Does anyone have any experience with low fetal heart rate. My baby's heart rate was only 91"...and someone replies, "I had an u/s yesterday and my baby's heart rate was 168! Dr. said this was nice and strong!" ....Um, thanks?

  • Maybe because they realize that some people are hurt when they post something personal or scary or traumatic and then notice they have 250 reviews and 2 responses.

It's better to say something than say nothing and offer at least the support of trying to understand/help.
