TTC after 35

Went to the OBGYN today and some ???s

I <3 my OBGYN!  I went for my annual, but she knew we were TTC and I was obviously not PG, so we talked about things.  She wants me to take OPKs and let her know if the test line never gets darker. She will then do some bloodwork and we'll go from there.  I'm glad she didn't tell me to just keep trying, I would have been so depressed!

Some questions:

I've only used OPKs 1x before and never got a + (but did get PG that cycle).  I know you can use them if you've been drinking a lot, but I drink 32 oz of water in the AM and PM at work.  Is it ok to do it first thing when I wake up?

And, what happens if I'm not ovulating regularly?  What do doctors usually recommend next?

TIA!

  • With drinking that much water my suggestion would be to use the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor since that uses FMU.  It should also give you a very easy way to determine your surge instead of trying to figure out if one line is darker or not.

I drink alot in the mornings too (um water that is) and have just started the fertility monitor this month.  In order to use OPKs you really need to limit your fluid intake in the morning before you use them.

  • My plan is to drink my 1 cup of joe in the AM, POAS at 11 am and then resume my chugging in the late morning.  Hopefully that will do the trick.  I tried to limit my H2O intake in the PM yesterday and it was a big fat FAIL!
