Does anyone know of any websites that give the nutritional breakdown (1 starch, 2 meats, 1 veggie, etc) in addition to/instead of just the calories/fats/etc?
I'm trying to make a meal plan and was provided an example by my doctor, but it's SO boring. I don't want to eat a chunk of chicken/turkey for lunch and dinner every day. I need real recipes.
Example-
Breakfast:
1 starch
1 meat
1 fruit
1 milk
1 fat
Re: Nutritional breakdown?
I don't know about websites, but for recipes you should try diabetic cookbooks. The exchange list was created for diabetes, so nearly all diabetes cookbooks have the nutrition info plus exchanges.
Why did your doctor suggest this? Do you have diabetes? If so, as an alternative you could carb count and just keep it the same. For example your breakfast meal, the starch, the fruit, and the milk are all carb servings (15 g carb = 1 carb serving), so you'd aim for 45 g of carb and round it out with a protein. So maybe 2 slices of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and small banana. Or a fried egg on an English muffin and 1/2 cup of orange juice.
