Baby Names

Is Jack really that popular?

We are expecting a boy and are having a hard time with names.  We originally liked Jack because that is my grandfather's name, but whenever I mention that name (my fault for telling people) they say how popular it is.  We don't want our DS to be one of 10 Jack's in his school.

What do you think?  Do you know many Jacks?

Re: Is Jack really that popular?

  • I think it's pretty popular.  I know of a couple little Jacks and have heard of many more.

  • That's the name we choose for our little guy. We are naming him Jack Thomas. Everyone I tell the name to love it because its a common name but nobody knew of someone named Jack. We are sticking with it.
  • Yes. That was an easy one.
  • It's definitely rising up in popularity. I personally know 4 Jacks that are small children/infants.

agree with PP's, Jack is very popular right now.  One of my aunts really wanted to name her son Jack but her husband didn't like "just" Jack.  So they named him Jackson.  He's 3.  She actually figured we'd all end up calling him Jack but he's always called Jackson.
  • I really like it, but know of 3 Jacks under the age of 2. But that doesn't mean it will be as popular in your area. I think if you love it you should go with it.
  • I really like it! I hear it a bunch on here, but never IRL

  • He will be one of 10 Jacks/Jacksons/Jaxons in his class.  I know a TON of little Jacks and Jacksons.

But at least it's a nice, classic name.  I'd take a Jack over a Jayden ANY day.

  • I don't know a lot of little children, but I do think it's popular.  However, it's a nice name and it has a special meaning to you.  I wouldn't let it's popularity change your mind.  I'm a Jennifer from the 1980s and I don't mind having a popular name.

I agree with the special meaning. My grandfathers name is Jack and so when my Mother had my youngest brother in 2004 they named him Jackson Wyatt.

  • yes, crazy popular here too but I like the sentiment.  I used a popular girl name b/c it was my grandmother's name and even though it's popular, I love that it has meaning in our family.
  • Jack is very popular right now.
  • Yes. There are a ton of Jacks!
  • Yes! I know 7 Jacks and 5 Jacksons!
