Postpartum Depression

What to say?

So I think I'm depressed... and anxious. I've been thinking about calling the Dr. all week, but then I don't know what to say. Do I call my OB? Or my PCP, who I've never even seen? Call a counselor directly? Once I make the call, do I just make an appt and talk about it more when I get there, or explain to the receptionist why I need an appt? Help! TIA

Re: What to say?

  • Call whomever you are most comfortable with.  I talked to my OB.  My OB has an advice nurse and I left a message on that line - they can usually get you in quicker that way.  I told her that I thought I was having a problem with PPD - all while I was bawling my eyes out.  Please call - you will be amazed at how relieved you will feel just by calling.  Good luck!!

  • I saw the OB during my 4 week check up and I didn't have to say anything. I started bawling as soon as he opened the door. My fiance called the counseling center for me the week before that and stayed there to make sure I told them what was wrong and was honest about it. They asked a few questions about what was happening and if had suicidal thoughts to see how soon they could get me an appointment.
  • I called and made an appt with the NP at my OB's office. I see her tomorrow. I wrote down all the things that I've been feeling so I don't choke when I get there...plus I know I'll be crying the whole time.
