Daycare mamas: What do you send for lunch?

I'm at a total loss here. I don't like the jarred babyfood mixes (stage 2/3) and she is pro at finger food. I need some ideas.

Re: Daycare mamas: What do you send for lunch?

  • They still eat purees at daycare. I'm still a bit leery of sending in too many finger foods there but I'm working on it.

You could send yogurt and diced fruit/veggies. bits of baby chicken salad or tuna  (i use greek yogurt instead of mayo) or pasta.

  • I haven't started sending finger foods yet.  DD is also really good with them, I just think I'm paranoid...like they aren't going to watch her as close as I do (I know I need to get the fvck over this).  But I guess if I were to send things I would send a piece of wheat bread (she loves this), a cheese stick, baked chicken, pasta, a banana.....not sure what else???

  • DS doesn't go to "daycare", but he stays with FIL.  I send food with him each Monday for the week.  This week I sent: baked sweet potato cubes, string cheese, steamed peas & carrots (mixed together), applesauce, bananas, blueberries, and yogurt.

He also eats bits of whatever FIL eats for lunch...grilled cheese, or tuna sandwich (which he actually likes).  For dinner at home I give him meat in addition to veggie & fruit.

  • J eats homemade puree at daycare.  A veggie serving and a bowl of oatmeal for lunch.

I send yogurt for the poor girl every day. I too am leery of sending what I would feed her at home  but maybe I could make a chunky stew of some sort.  Diced veggies are a great idea. She loves steamed sweet potato, I can cube them.   And chicken salad? Genius! You are so smart BOH.

She's a great eater if you don't count the lemons...

We'll be sending more finger foods for the boys at 10 months I think. They love what I call baby pasta salad. Mini bowties with peas, chicken, carrots and a dash of italian dressing.

  • C has been refusing purees for months - so I have been sending table food for quite some time.  We send things like; yogurt, pancakes, french toast sticks, fresh fruit, veggies (all kinds peas, carrots, string beans...), cheese sticks, pasta, mac&cheese (auntie anne's I'm not a fan of blue box), meat sticks, tater tots, couscous......

So, pretty much anything!  I've even sent in lasagna, pot pies, and other left overs we have.  I usually try to make sure she has fruits and veggies evreyday, but other than that we send anything.  And we always send snacks - crunchies, cheerios, veggie sticks, gold fish!

  • Does your daycare not provide table food to the babies?  You may want to ask. I asked LO's sitter if she provided finger food and she said that yes, she tries to buy things at the store for the babies who are just starting table food...like bananas and such. She said I could bring specific foods that I know DD likes though.  So far I have sent diced up kiwi and avocado and broccoli.  I emailed the sitter a list of finger foods that LO has tried and done well with so that she knows what she can give her.
