Sleep issues, ugh

Ok my kid is eight months old,he has always been an ok sleeper, but recently he started the whole anxiety thing, he falls asleep in our arms, we set him in his crib, and as soon as he hears us go down the steps (dang creaky house) he screams, we have tried letting him cry it out, wich I don't care for, not to mention he DOES NOT STOP, he gets so upset he hyperventilates and sometimes throws up. Once we DO finally get him down, he wakes up at least 3 times in the middle of the night crying, I checked his diaper, i dont feed him over night, he has enough food during the day and a snack before bed, and I give him tylenol in case it's his teeth, but in the end he just wants mommy and daddy, because as soon as I pick him up he stops, my sister said to put ambesol on his gums beofre bed at night and see if that helps, but he hates ambesol, I dont know what is going on, but I am at my wits end, we had it good for like two months, so I dont know WHAT the heck this is about or how to fix it. anyone else going through this?

  • Guess you should get rid of that STTN badge, huh?  ;)  My DD has become possessed by some evil dream demon and, at almost 8 months, is back to waking up to eat every 2 hours.  I might die if she doesn't quit soon.  I went to bed at 9pm last night ... I feel so old.

  • DD does the same thing, so I don't have any advice.  She cries almost as soon as we leave the room.  When I pick her up, she might fuss for a minute, but then falls asleep on my shoulder.  Sometimes I can put her back down and make a clean get away, but she'll wake up crying about an hour later.  DH and I are exhausted from going through this routine all night long.  Towards morning, we usually end up letting her sleep with us and she sleeps so much better, but then I feel like we're just starting another bad habit.  I think it might be better if we could put her to bed awake so when she wakes up in the night she's not scared that she's somewhere different from where she fell asleep.  Unfortunately, without doing CIO, we don't know how to do this.  :(

  • Does he stop crying once you've come back into the room?  My thought was that if he does, maybe you could leave him in the crib, and just stand over him with a comforting hand on his tummy.  But don't talk to him.  See if you can do this for a few minutes and then leave the room again.
  • he just doesnt want to be int he crib PERIOD, if I leave he cries if I come in and stand ovr him, he cries, if I try soothing him in his crib, he cries. i am SO glad I am not alone, maybe this is just some phase, I just am not a fan of CIO.

  • It sounds like he's struggling to go to bed and waking frequently because he's not used to putting himself to sleep/back to sleep.  Honestly, I think you're going to have to do some kind of sleep training.  It doesn't have to be CIO.  There are a lot of methods out there - do the research and find one that sits right with you.  GL!
