LO has been rolling over from back to belly since 3 months 3 weeks, so he is very good at it. Since he is the roll-over king he rolls over onto his belly during his sleep and gets stuck and cries. Poor guy, I feel terrible for him.
Sometimes he will sleep on his belly (which scares me although the Ped says that he is fine and if he gets in a compromising situation he will cry to let me know as he does). Other times when he is not happy to sleep on his belly he cries so I roll him over and he goes back to sleep. Or he rolls right back over onto his belly and thus begins the cycle. This usually happens after about 6-7 hours of sleep. (he has been sleeping 8-10 hours for the past 2 months at night...i know we are very lucky).
He really just needs to learn how to roll over from belly to back so he doesn't get stuck...we are working on it but he hasn't mastered it yet.
Anyone have any suggestions? Also anyone else freaking out about LO sleeping on their belly (if they didn't before)? It is really strange for me to see him this way and I worry he will stop breathing!
Re: rolling over and sleep
He actually rolled over in a "leg only" swaddle a week after he began rolling over. Plus from what I've read it isn't good to swaddle them once they begin rolling over. He is a busy and strong guy. If I tried to swaddle him again he wouldn't be a happy camper!
Well...goodness...
What about sleeping on an incline (like they do for reflux babies)??
Other than that, I'm all tapped out.
Did I write this post in my sleep as an AE? Seriously, all of what you wrote is exactly our situation. I suggest giving him as much tummy time as possible and encourage rolling by holding a toy behind his head and letting him know it is there. I read somewhere about pulling a blanket to roll them, but I am scared DS would break an arm or something doing that so I have not tried it.
DS did roll himself belly to back the other night while sleeping. He can do it - he just doesn't. It might be the same for your LO. GL!
