Is it dumb to put things in front of windows?

I grew up in a very small house with 6 people so inevitably something was in front of the window in the bedrooms.

In our new house, I was thinking about putting LO's bed in front of the window (basically covering up the window since we're thinking about bunk beds.)

My husband looked at me like I was psycho.

Is this a decor no-no? Does anything work in front of the window?

    I don't have a problem with things in front of windows, but the only safe way to put a baby bed next to a window is to have absolutely no window treatments, or to pull the bed a few feet away from the wall so they can't reach it.  A baby being close enough to pull curtains/blinds down, in a piece of furniture that they're not going to be supervised in 24/7, is bad.  (And they'll do it eventually.)

    That said, the duo's room is kind of small and a lot of the wall space is taken up by windows so we HAD to put something in front of one of the windows.  Their dressers are in front of one, and their toy box and chairs are in front of the other.

    I would be okay with a bed in front of a window as long as the bed is low and the window is high, so most of the light can still come through.  I wouldn't put bunk beds in front of a window.  Aside from blocking light, I think it would just look weird.

    Our bed is in front of the windows and I hate it.  We moved the dresser and put the bed there.  There is no other way the room works, unfortunately.  If I had any other choice, nothing would be blocking the windows.

    I am so glad someone asked this.

    We are about to paint and rearrange the furniture in the guest bedroom.  It is tiny and right now I can't put the headboard or footboard on the bed becuase you wouldn't have room to walk.  I want to center the bed on the window, and think it may just work.

    Yeah, I figured it wasn't a "right now" thing, but I probably wouldn't put a child under the age of 5 in a bed next to curtains/blinds, and even then it would depend on their maturity level and how much I trusted them to not pull them down.  ;)

    From a safety standpoint, what Leslie said.

    Overall, I wouldn't do it :-)

    I wouldn't do it unless I had to. Which we did in DD's room, as she has a full size loft bed. Sucker's huge.
