How long did you try before

Going and having fertility testing done? We have been trying since August which I didn't think was that long (relatively speaking) but it seems than many people on here are upset because they have been trying for less than 4-5 months and aren't prego.

Been trying since June. DH got an SA in Jan and if we're still not knocked up after the next cycle I'll talk to my OB about further testing. We're also in our mid-thirties so we don't have the luxury of time on our side.

People are upset just because they aren't getting pregnant, that doesn't mean they don't know it can take time.

It took us 10 cycles with #1. At the time, it felt like a long time, but in retrospect, it was no time at all.

It can take up to a year for normal, healthy couples to conceive. After that, they recommend testing. Unless you are over 35, then they say 6 months.

That being said, if you have already been diagnosed with a condition that can hinder your ability to get pregnant, then I see no reason why you should have to wait.

But, if there really isn't anything "wrong" or if you know you are ovulating and everything is good with your DH/SO/BF, then I think you should wait the recommended time before seeing a doc.

I was on cycle #8 when we started fertility testing. Depending on your insurance, they may not cover anything until you've been trying for a year. We're OOP, so it didn't really matter.

For us, it turned out to be a good thing to get the testing started sooner, but don't feel like you have to do anything because you've been trying since August. It is normal for it to take up to a year. How long have you been charting? The link in your siggy doesn't work for me.

I am charting and have used opk's some months (very expensive to buy them every month) DH is concerned that it is him because I had a child when I was 19.

This. I do want to add though that I don't think there is anything wrong with ladies getting a little upset that they're not pregnant in the first 4-5 months. Just because we know it can take a perfectly healthy couple up to a year, it's still upsetting to not get pregnant right away and not have any clue if/when it's going to happen.

Im on cycle 12 now. We did an SA when we were at cycle 10, and I had a lap, etc at cycle 11.

I would wait a year before testing.

We'll be going for an initial consult visit around cycle # 11 if no BFP before then...It makes me feel better to have a 'plan'. I understand the "it can take a perfectly healthy couple a year" thing, but with very well timed sex, a normal SA, and a normal cycle in which I appear to be ovulating based on charting, it is really making me wonder if there's something else going on..and the sooner I find out, the better.

On FF, when you're on the page where you see your chart, over on the left there is an option for "Sharing." Click that, then select "Tickers" to set up a ticker directly from them.

I am on cycle #10 and we will be getting the HSG and SA done in the next month so that when I hit 12 cycles we can go to RE with some things already done. I hope we don't have to but since DH is 38 and I'm 32 we're being pro-active because as a poster above said, we don't have the luxury of time like someone in their 20's.

DH and I have been trying since Jan 2009, but we've been TTC off an on, so in total we've probably only TTC'd for about 7 months before seeing the fertility specialist.

The only reason we're going before the year mark is because I stopped getting AF and Oing. I think if a person has a reason to they should, but if they're just doing it because they're impatient, then they need to get a grip.

DH and I had only started trying in the fall, but I had been off BCP for a year before that. I didn't ovulate, and don't get a period so my gyno referred us to an RE. There I was diagnosed with PCOS, so I was glad that we were referred early.

We are on cycle #9 but have also had 2 m/c's in that time. I have a followup with my OB on Friday and will be discussing our options with him then.

It will be a little over a year for us when we go in for testing (April is a year, our appointment is May 7th). We could've gone sooner because I do have PCOS, but DH wasn't ready to admit we needed help.

I have been off the pill since july, started trying in August, this is my 3 cycle of charting. my dr said if we are not KU by April or may to come in and see them. We will probably wait a little longer.

I'm a little biased because I just got bad SA results yesterday, but I wish we had gotten some basic testing done earlier.

I've been charting and knew I was o-ing and we've been ttc since August also. I was planning to wait until a year to go, because that's the standard time, but when I went in for a checkup my gyn suggested some basic bloodwork for me, and a SA for DH, just to see if there were any obvious problems.

Well it looks like DH does have a problem, one which is *hopefully*, relatively easy to fix, and I really wish he had done the SA 6 months ago, so we hadn't wasted all this time. It took him an hour, and was less than $50, and if that minimal amount of time and money could have saved me the past few months of stress, I would gladly have done it.

So like I said, I'm biased, but I really wished we had done at least the easy/cheap SA and blood work long ago, and not waited the "standard" amount of time.

We have been trying for 6 months...I have not had any testing done but since we would have to pay OOP so my DH had one done.

We are on our fourth month, and I'm already talking to my doctor because I don't think I'm ovulating. DH and I are both 34 so we don't want to wait a year before we start looking at problems.
