Its not that bad, I had it for a polyp. I would def get it out of the way to smooth everything out. Do not know what the real diff is between that and d & c-let me know what Dr G says!
i have never had a D&C, buT I dont think they are the same thing. I had a Hysteroscopy in Jan and it took about 5 min (if that).. It was painful, because they fill your uterus full of fluid to be able to see inside! It was a lot of pressure, just take a couple of IB Profen about 45 min before... that is what the doctor told me to do!
I had one and then I had another one combined with a laproscopy. it isn't that bad, but they have to dilate the cervix to let the camera in. i did my in hte office and the lap I did at a surgery center.
Never had one...are you getting a mock transfer too? That was a breeze. U/S assisted, stick the catheter in and then they diagram what your insides look like and which route to travel.
I've had 3. 2 were operative and I was under sedation (just like ER) - they removed a few polyps in those. They thread a camera up there, and scrape away the polyp or fibroid with some tool. The last one was just to take a look, prior to my last IVF cycle, the RE required it. No sedation that time...they thread a camera through the cervix and take a look. The procedure only lasted a few minutes, it hurt a bit, but just some cramping...kind of like the HSG.
Hopefully you're just needing the exploratory one...good luck!

I think their intent is just to explore... but possibly snip what's there, if anything. Like I mentioned in a post below... the SHG today showed a "jagged" edge.
whatever. ;-(
thanks guys.

yeh, I"m freaking LV. freaking. this better not mess ME UP ! ;-)
I guess it's more puffing up the ute and looking, and maybe some snips to get rid of things. I'm curious about sedation or if I"m awake, or what?
doc just called, mom is here asking 90000 questions, more later....
I got the good drugs for the hysteroscopy.
I got the good drugs as well. I went to the surgery center and went under for it. I am not going to fib. The experience was worse (for me) then the egg retrieval. I had a blocked tube. I guess there was a major cleaning required up in there. Ouch.
I had one to specifically remove a polyp and I won't lie -- it sucked hard core. It was done in an outpatient surgery center. I was supposed to be under conscious sedation but WAS NOT. I've had conscious sedation for colonoscopies a plenty and know what it is and that was not it. I was absolutely traumatized.
Anyway, the dilation was the worst part, the cutting of the polyp was no fun and the recovery involved much bleeding.
I would ask a lot more questions. Like how much they intend to do while in there, what the anesthesia will be like, and what the recovery time is. After my "simple" snip, I had over a month of recovery to get my body back to normal.
I think that there are two different kinds of hysteroscopy's. Some people's seem to be pretty mild - no sedation. Other's, including mine, are done under twilight sedation and done in a hospital. As I said, mine was under twilight, but, apparently, I started to feel some pain and started moaning, so, they put me under more deeply.
It is not a D&C, but, that may accompany it. Mine was exploratory. They went in through my cervix to take a look. While in there, they found a mass of tissue that they wanted to remove and test, so, they did a D&C at that time.
The recovery was similar to my other D&C. I woke up in a recovery room and left the hospital a couple hours later.
My hysteroscopy was at a hospital and I was given twilight for it. I woke up with a pad under me and no pain. I think I was given some Tylenol 3's. I was a little crampy that night and was good to go on vacation the next day. (I was not allowed to swim for a week) Mine was for a blocked tube. They had to try a few different things but it did open.
I would say the pain was less than the D&C i had. The D&C was pretty easy- only a little cramping and this was less than that.

I had one also prior to having Aaron about 2 1/2 years ago. I really don't know why I had it done, other than to look at my ute. The SHG offered no possible problems then. I think it was just routine with my RE at the time. I was totally awake during it and they dilated the cervix and stuck a camera up there to look for any abnormalities. While it wasn't not painful, it's wasn't unbearable. They found nothing and it took about 15 minutes. I had no complications. Like PP said, it sounds like there are two different kinds. Either they remove stuff or they don't. Good luck either way.

I had a hysteroscopy and I remember it being really quick and not very painful. I think I had a vicodin or something, but maybe not. (Man, my memory is slipping.) The doctor just did it in one of the more equipped exam rooms right there in the office. Unless I'm thinking of a different procedure. This was where he sent a camera up my hoo-ha and looked around the inside of my uterus. That's a hysteroscopy, right?
I had two pre-IVF, since my clinic wants to make sure everything is clean. One was a diagnostic turned surgical (we found my uterine septum and fixed it, surprise!) and the second was diagnostic to make sure everything looked good and had healed properly.
No big deal at all. Mine were both done with me in twilight sedation so they could fix anything they found. Puff me up and stick up a camera to look around.
the camera part was a breeze- like an ET- but the scraping of my ute- dear God. i had no meds so i felt it all- it was only 10 seconds of scraping but it was the longest 10 seconds ever.
as soon as it was over the relief was almost immediate- but i cried & cried- felt very sorry for myself - heh
Re: Le sigh. Hysteroscopy anyone?
I am so sorry you have to do this too! I never had one...so I can't answer that.
BUT - can you believe how soon you are starting IVF? I'm so excited for you!!!
