Glider w/ Ottoman or Lazy Boy? Recommendations?

I'm starting to look for a chair for our nursery.  I would like something that will go with my nursery.  Don't really want to spend more than $500.  Would like something that can lay back (if I need to sleep).  Something that provides lower back support.  But doesn't look like something my 80 year old great grandpa would hang in.  Stick out tongue  We want something that can go in our living room when it's done in the nursery.

What have you bought/what are you buying?  What brands are best?  What totally sucks?

Re: Glider w/ Ottoman or Lazy Boy? Recommendations?

  • We went with a glider w/ ottoman from BRU. We looked at a lazy boy but found that the recliner clicking noise was a bit louder than we wanted.

  • I decided I wanted something that could be used in any room of the house for when it isn't needed in the nursery any more and I don't think that's a glider.

I've been looking at this from Walmart

    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dorel-Rocking-Chair-Choose-your-Slipcover/13229908

It's affordable and if you have it shipped to the store, it's free shipping. The reviews are good, too.

  • We are going to get a recliner because we would never use a glider in any other part of the house. We haven't decided which one yet because we are getting new living room furniture too.

  • We have a Dutailier glider and ottoman.  I love them and still use both almost every day with DS.  It's purely a personal preference, but I love the look of a glider much better than a lazy boy type recliner.  What ever you decide, get something that has a fairly wide seat so it can accomadate you, baby, boppy, etc.  And if you get a glider, make sure that you buy one with really good padding.  Nothing would suck worse than being stuck in the glider for hours on end during a growth spurt and be uncomfortable.
  • I had a rocker with DD and we used it maybe twice because while it was cute, it wasn't very comfortable.  This time around I went for complete comfort and we found a La-Z-Boy on craigslist and it is just perfect.  It's small but big enough to be comfortable and I don't have to worry about having an ottoman in the way in our smaller nursery.

$75 and in perfect condition, even came with the covers to go over the armrests and headrest.

  • I went for total comfort and functionality.  I bought a remote-control recliner.  I like the fact that it can recline and stop in any position so I don't have to recline all the way back if that isn't what I want to do at that moment.  Also, it either glides or rocks - I can't remember which.  It should be in any day now, along with my nursery furniture!  Also, I ordered a chocolate brown color so I can use it in my house when I am done with it in the nursery.  There are different fabrics that you can get that are spot-cleanable because supposedly it isn't safe to get the scotch guard on things you will use in the nursery.
  • Best Chair recliner. Best purchase we bought. You can custom order it in any fabric they have- we have lime green :-)

  • I never nursed much in the baby's room...I didn't like to be tucked away alone.  Plus my boys were long nursers, it would've been really boring.  I prefered our rocker/recliner (acutally was a Lazy Boy) in our living room.

  • DH just bought me the Dutailier grand glider and ottoman from BRU - it is amazingly comfortable and (I think) super stylish. We will definitely use it in other parts of our house once its out of the nursery. It reclines so you get the best of both worlds. DH paid $750 for both, but you can get just the chair for $500 (unless its cheaper in the States - very well could be).

I would HIGHLY recommend that one - its not worth cheaping out on a piece of furniture that you're going to be spending hours and hours in (IMO)

I never nursed in the nursery either.  At our old house the glider was in the office and in our new house, it's in our bedroom.  There is a tv in both rooms, which really helped for those marathon nursing sessions.  Especially in the middle of the night!

  • We got a rocker/recliner for the same reasons you listed above. The company who made ours is called American Furniture. We love it! Granted, it's just hanging out in the living room right now until we finish painting the nursery, but it's very comfy! It's a microsuede fabric, so it's easy to clean, too.

  • We have a Lazy Boy in our living room, it's leather, and I love it.  That ran us about $800 so that is more than you are willing to spend.  Also, I think it may take up a lot of room in the baby room.

We went with a glider rocker for the babyroom.  It is nice and quiet and smaller and doesn't make a loud noise like the LZB does when you lower the foot rest.

I say got for the glider!

  • Wow, thanks SO much for your advice and suggestions ladies!  Can't wait to share with DH!

  • I have a dorel and it squeaks like crazy. I also have a lazy boy downstairs and we bought the highest end leather and it has been a life saver
  • We're going tonight to check out the Dutailier chairs since they got the most recommendations!  I had initially registered for one (unknowingly) when we were wandering around BRU.  It was so comfy, but I didn't even know that the brand was popular.  Once we've tried those out, if we don't find something we both like, then we'll try the other brands suggested.  My parents are going to be buying it for us, but if we go over budget, I'm paying the difference!  Hopefully, we find something we really like tonight.  One less thing to worry about!

    Thanks so much everyone!
