What should I read next?

I've just finished An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon and I need something else fun to read.  A little escapism would be good for me right now.  I love Louisa May Alcott, Jane Austen, historical fiction, modern fiction...and I'm open to anything new.

So, what should I pick up next?

Re: What should I read next?

  • Have you read Loving Frank?  I totally devoured that book.  It is sort of a fact-based fictional account of Frank Lloyd Right's dramatic, long term extramarital affair with Mahmah Bothwick.

Loved that book.  I may go read it again.

  • so these aren't nearly as good as Louisa May Alcott or Jane Austen but if your'e looking for historical fiction.... have you read the Philippa Gregory books? I read lots of them while I lived in Europe. Very escapist I think, but still sort of based in fact. I don't know if they'd be difficult to find in English, though. I know a lot of the women on the IN board complain about the difficulty of finding books in English. But I know it is possible - you might be able to use amazon to ship from the UK as well if you're willing to pay that much.

  • The Red Tent. Very interesting historical fiction loosely based on biblical characters.

  • Ditto Phillippa Gregory!!  Just don't start with the Wideacre Trilogy, not her best books.  Also love the Gabaldon books!
  • Help! I don't post much, but I'm not 43 weeks preg!  She's a month old today.  How do I get rid of that ticker?  Sorry to ask on your post OP!

  • The Red Tent has caught my eye before...I may have to pick that up along with one of Gregory's books.  My niece (college age) really likes them and I just haven't tried them.

Off to see what I can find used on Amazon...

    Thanks!  Good ideas, all!
