How do you feel about LO getting tatted? I LOVE tattoos. I have six and DH has two and we just had a dispute about LO getting tattoos. He thinks that it would be hippocritical (sp?) to tell LO that she can't get tattoos. I would have no objections to her getting tattoos once she is 18 (like I did) but I just can't see signing for my 15 yo to get some stupid tattoo on her hand or something. Maybe I'm a little sensitive because I work at a high school and when I see a teenage girl with her boyfriend's name going around her wrist I cringe.

Re: If you have tattoos... Please come in!!!
This is exactly why she will be waiting until she is 18. Although her uncle does tattoos for a living so I am worried about what that might mean.
I have 2. H is completely against the idea of tattoos and body piercings. I also didn't get mine until after I had turned 18. So to me it isn't hypocritical to require my child to have to wait till they can sign for themselves (ie 18) to get tattoos.
H and I are still under discussion about piercing a little girl's ears.
My Profile
I am okay with LO getting tattoos or piercings. I have 2 tattoos and DH had several piercings before he started teaching. My dad got me my first one at 17, but he made me think about it for one year before I got it. I think that I would probably handle the situation the same way if it were my child.
ETA: The tattoo my dad signed for is small and easily covered. I don't think that he would have ok'd something ridiculous nor would I. After LO turns 18 there obviously isn't too much DH and I can do...
I have one, and while I don't regret it, if I could do it all over again I wouldn't have gotten it. It's really pretty and I get comments from people all the time about how they love it, but I'm more of a natural person now.
We'd probably tell our kid that if he wants to get one, he has to wait until he's out of our house and supporting himself. That way he can make his own decision, but decision time will come when he's older and more mature (this is me assuming he wouldn't be able to support himself at 18 years old and would probably still be at home).

A girl I went to college with got one when she was 15 and it was a freaking ice cream cone. Why didn't her mom tell her that wasn't a good idea, IDK, bu that is the type of tattoos that 15 yo get.
i've got 10 and SO is completely covered...
although he didn't wait til he was 18, I had to, so she will too..
one of my best friends got a tattoo at 14, and it was a grateful dead bear.. she's almost 23 now and regrets it totally..
I don't have one tattoo that I regret because they all have meaning. i hope to instill that in her before she turns 18 so that when she decides on something to get (if anything at all) it will be something she will never regret.
The Nutty Life
18, and the tattoo has to have significance. Same for both of them.
If Elena wants a butterfly tattoo just to get a butterfly tattoo, then no. This is permanent. I waited and thought long and hard about each tattoo I have.
I have two (one on my back and one on the top of my foot) and DH doesn't have any- he isn't against them, it is just not his thing. I got my first one when I was 17, and while I don't "regret" it, it is a sun, and I don't think it is something I would get today. The one on the top of my foot is only 3 years old and I love it. I would definitely want DD to wait until she is 18 to get one.
