Anyone use Playtex drop-ins? or other inexpensive bottles

I'd love some feedback.

The only bottles we've ever used are Dr. Brown's--and we only have three 8-oz bottles. Now that I'm weaning Henry we'll need more bottles, but I'd like to take the opportunity to switch to something cheaper and less complicated.

Any feedback on the Playtex drop-ins, or recs for a different bottle?

TIA!

  • We use Playtex drop ins and I do love them. It is really nice not to have to wash bottles every day, you just pull out the liner and throw it away. Very simple. I am so glad we started using them.

  • The drop ins are wonderful since we have 2 babies.  It saves so much time in the bottle washing department.
  • That's the only bottle Ella would take was Playtex drop ins.  Easy clean up and we loved them.

  • We use dropins and love them.  3 pieces (nipple, ring and "bottle" sleeve) plus the drop in liner, no leaks and easy to recycle the liners (ours go in our curbside pickup bin) and toss the parts in the dishwasher.  I've only ever heard good things about them.

We use the 4 oz. liners from Target (up & up) but I've heard the 8-10 oz. Playtex are better than the Target brand.

  • I use drop-ins and love them. One great thing is that you can buy Target brand liners that are a lot cheaper than Playtex ones.

I'm not sure if drop-ins work with bottle warmers, if that matters to you -- I think daycare just uses a cup of warm water. E will take EBM cold out of the fridge, so I've never had to worry about warming them.

  • LOVE the drop-ins!  We had regular bottles at first but when LO was little, she would get very gassy -- the drop ins seem to cut down on the air they swallow and therefore she was less gassy.

And - as pp said -- bottle washing is a snap w/ the drop-ins!!

  • We used drop ins.  They're great for on the go....  just premeasure the formula, roll it up and put a rubber band around it.

    I'm cheap.

I'd use the same liner all day long and just keep the bottle in the fridge.

I hated Dr. Browns - too much work for me.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • We have only used drop-ins and absolutely love them!

  • I prefer Avent bottles when we're at home.  I put them in the dishwasher with all our other dishes.

We use Playtex drop-ins on the road and for trips.  They are great too!

  • Love them, but they can't go in bottle warmers.  They were great for when we switched to all formula, because usually you aren't warming up formula (unless you are at daycare, but they use warm water).
  • I love the drop ins!

  • These are the bottles I want to use.  But last night at the BF class I attended, she said the worst nipple to use was the Playtex Latex "square" one.  I remember these way back in the day... but looking at BRU online, none of the Playtex nipples look like the sqaure ones the LC warned against using.  The ones now available all look like the wide natual latch.  I just need to try to use the silicone ones- right?

This! To clean and sanitize my rings and nipples, I use the medela steam bags for the microwave.

  • We started with the Drop-Ins and had nothing but problems with them collapsing into the bottles.  It was terrible.  We'd be in the middle of a feeding and she'd be wearing most of her bottle as would we.  This happened with both the Playtex and generic liners.

We switched to the Ventaires and have had no problems.  I also like that you can get the wide style nipple for both of these bottles.

The Ventaires still have a valve in the bottom, but not as putsy as the Dr Brown's.

  • That is what we use. I like them. I have enough to wash as it is! We use the playtex expandable drop ins the 8-10 oz but thats all I have ever used
  • Hmmm...are we the only ones that have had so many problems with DropIns?  Someone on the BFing board had suggested that maybe we were tightening them down too much, so then we were extra cautious of that and still had problems.

  • We used them, and loved 'em.

I've never seen anything in a square nipple, so maybe they don't make those anymore.

I never had a bottle collapse on us in a year of use, and she was hard on her bottles - swinging them around, playing with 'em, throwing them.

  • We purchased some playtex drop ins and Born Free.  We ended up liking and sticking with the Born Free bottles.
  • We also loved them!  So convenient and easy to clean.  We warmed the bottles in a cup of warm water.  The Target brand liners work great -- the only difference that I found is that the Target ones go up to 8 oz, whereas the Playtex ones can expand to 10 oz.

  • Thanks for all the input! I'm definitely going to try them.
  • we tried every bottle when we were going through E's initial reflux issues, and we eventually narrowed it down to 2... born free and drop ins.
We went to drop ins and they were great! :)

I have also only had a bottle collapse when *I* did something wrong and I prefer target brand to playtex liners! Oh and they hold 5 ounces, not 4! :)

I didn't use Drop ins, but I used other cheap bottles--both Evenflo and Gerber ones.  I liked the Gerber ones the best.  Even the small ones were 5 ounces which is what my DDs took for a while and since they were smaller, it was easier for them to hold them themselves.
