Adoption is such a beautiful act of love. Let me make it clear that I would NEVER change a thing about my life. I have biological parents and "adoptive parents". In my eyes my adoptive parents are the most selfless and amazing people I know personally.
Adoption is also one that can be very difficult for the adoptee and the adoptive parents. I wanted to recommend a book that helped me.
This book did wonders because as I grew up my feelings started to get very mixed and I had a tumultuous teenage-hood.
Re: This was an essential book for me (I'm an adoptee)
Do you think that book might be helpful for someone like me? I am half-adopted, my stepfather adopted me when I was 8. He IS (was, he is deceased) my dad but I still have some issues, KWIM?
Yes it would. It talks about a quest for wholeness. Check it out.
Was your adoption open ? Have you met either of your birth parents ?
I am from Guatemala. My father died in some guerrilla warfare a month to the day that I was born, my mother is possibly still alive, I had two sisters [one of which passed away due to starvation and malaise] and the other was adopted.
My life is unique because I was able to stay in contact with my sister. Unfortunately she passed away when I was 12 in a car accident.
I have one picture of my birth mother and zero of my father or other sister.
I am happy to stick around and help out as much as I can. I aspire to be a therapist that specializes in adolescents and adoption.
