2nd Trimester

s/o anyone going on leave at 36 weeks?

I teach and school gets out June 25. I am due July 10 or so. I can't use any paid sick time in Sept. and have a 2 week waiting period for my disability. It works out better if I go out 2 weeks earlier than school ends money wise because I get paid disability until 6 weeks after the baby is born. I went out with ds at 36 weeks and was so done with teaching by then, I know by the end of June I will have no patience for 25 students ready for summer!

Daycare will be paid for the month of June so ds can go a few days a week and I can rest, get food and meals ready, get things ready for baby, etc)

Re: s/o anyone going on leave at 36 weeks?

  • I'm working until I am in labor!  I don't want to use any of my PTO or leave time to sit at home and wait.  It will be summer and DH is off since he is a teacher so he will take over the house and our son.  I worked up until DS was born last time and I was still feeling well.  Of course, he was born at 38 weeks so hard to say when this one will come!

But do whatever works for you and your family.  It would be nice to have some down time to get ready and enjoy your family of 3.

  • I really wanted to wrok until i went into labor, but my job made me go on early maternity leave been off now a little over a month. I work in a automotve production plant, and they claim they don't have any work for me. When i was prego with my second child at my old plant I worked until I delivered with no problems, so I guess im a lil bummed now.
  • I get 4 weeks off prior to my due date from disability so I intend to do it!  That is if I don't go early.  I want to be home, nesting and spending a little alone time before the baby arrives!
  • I am going a month early, that way I have some time to enjoy me time and get prepared. May sound selfish, but I think my work prefers to know when they have to replace me rather that a days notice.
  • I went out on maternity leave at 36 weeks with DD and it was not a moment too soon! I was so super uncomfortable, people found me leaning on stuff at work and looked like I was in pain and often asked if I needed to go to the hospital. This time I'm going out at 37 weeks because my parents who are DD's caretakers are going on vacation before LO is born. Hey if you can swing time off before the baby gets here, why not?
  • Our maternity leave policy requires one to leave 2 weeks prior to due date. Since most women in my company take 3 months-1 year off this forces them to wrap up their work (and no one going into labor in the office-- usually). I'm using it...
  • I am planning on working until I'm 38 weeks, possibly 36 or 37.  Our state's disability will pay up to 4 weeks before and 6 weeks after (8 for c section).  I want to stay out as long as possible, and if I don't go out those 4 weeks prior, I will "lose" them... my plan is to stop no later than 38 weeks, collect until my due date and then 6 weeks after, and then use a month of sick/vacation time.  last time I stopped working at 39 weeks, used a week's vacation and she was born a few days later  DD will be going to daycare 2 days/week while I'm out, and then probably go back to FT a week or so before I go back.
