DD got into a box of See's chocolate yesterday at a friends house. Her 7 year old daughter left it in the floor after she got a piece. Another friend of mine, who was also there, gave me this long lecture about what a bad mother I am for *letting* DD have chocolate.
Um... #1. it was left of the floor #2. I did not *give* it to her and #3. It will not kill her.
So now I am wondering, who gives or lets there LO have chocolate? Not all the time, but maybe taste it.
Re: do you give your LO chocolate?
I have the same mentality.
This. I eat treats so I think it would be hypocritical if I never let my LOs so much as taste them. They've had chocolate a few times; their birthday cupcakes were devil's food (gluten-free) cupcakes. They've had chocolate pudding a few times. We've put a tsp of Ovaltine in their milk (per the pedi's suggestion) a couple times when they were going through a few days of not wanting to drink their milk. I've given them tiny tastes of brownies I was eating a couple times. That's about it. Like you said, it won't hurt them.
This exactly!
We let DD have tastes of everything we have, except Shellfish or fish (since I have an extreme allergy to shellfish).
I believe moderation is the key!
DD has been given chocolate on occasion, not all the time.
She's really only had chocolate on cakes at special events. When I have ice cream she's usually in bed and I just don't have chocolate cookies in the hosue. I never give her candy. Lord only knows what my ILs give her though.
It's a baby, not a German shepherd. I think it's going to be okay.
Joseph has had chocolate. He actually is not a big fan. Except for brownies.
DD will get a couple nibbles off our ice cream if we are eating it. We also give her cookies which is usually 1 cookie because thats all she wants. Or if we have cake she gets some too.
We also give her chocolate but not very often. This past weekend we where at a Baptism & the favors where chocolate lollipops. She ate a little bit of it & was wired for sound. OMG! lol She crashed hard too. For this reason we try not to give her sugar.
I don't understand your friends problem.
Um, what is life without chocolate? :-)
We've given DDs chocolate chip pancakes a couple times and they've had chocolate chip cookies a time or two. Oh yeah, their BD cupcakes were devil's food. And there are a couple little chocolate bunnies for their Easter basket. So, nope, they definitely don't eat as much of it as I do, but they've gotten a few tastes. There is nothing that I won't let them try...well, maybe not booze or soda, but almost everything else is fair game.

OMG...I found my twin. LOL. But I agree with this. My LO has had a piece of my chocolate chip cookie. no biggie.

Absolutely. DD has dessert when we have dessert. I like to bake, so we often have cookies or brownies or something around, and I let her have them. She also eats pretty much everything else under the sun, including fruits and vegetables and pretty much whatever else you offer her. Introducing her to chocolate did not ruin her for vegetables.
Actually, at this age, "helping Mommy bake cookies" really means sitting on the counter, helping dump stuff and munching on chocolate chips. I have no problem with this definition.

thats awesome! how do you do that? i love sweets.. major sweet tooth every single day!
Yes. If we have treats, cookies or candy around the house, generally DD is allowed to share some.
She loves helping us make cookies from scratch; I prefer using M&Ms to chocolate chips, and she'll pick a few out and eat them. We've had some Easter candy around lately -- mini-Snickers and such -- and if DH or I have a couple, we'll split one with her if she wants.

If we have chocolate cake or pudding for dessert, we don't usually give her her own serving, but we do let her share ours.
